Flint or Flare on OSX?
March 14, 2010 at 9:42 am #218791shannones ridersParticipantFlint would be harsh. Flare would be really welcomed…:)

It begs the question, if you have a flare and a smoke on mac, that’s a flame. Sure you have to bounce between the two softwares, but if you have oodles of ram then that’s a nonissue.
March 15, 2010 at 10:30 am #218766pixelmonkParticipantI think more importantly they need to look at pricing. If they really want to carry on being market leaders this is one area in need of a major overhaul, particularly the ongoing cost of subsscription.

Man am I excited to hear what they have to announce this year.
March 15, 2010 at 6:14 pm #218800Shannon GansParticipantBurn is not free – you need subscription to get it.
Flare/flint on Mac – unlikely.
I would like to see “software only” with a list of supported hardware – like Burn/Smac, but I suspect that will not be anytime soon.
Shame about Backdraft Conform also no longer being available for sale, but at least they are still supporting it – but for how long?
Being the premier show – there could be new hardware?

Which now means there is no background archiving solution.
Maybe we can look forward to an option in Flame, (particularly useful for Flare)(looks to the sky to see a pig with wings!!)

I’ll respectfully disagree with you on this. I find subscription/support quite reasonable and easy to pay off in the scheme of a business. My combo system subscription is about $4500 USD per app, so paying $375 for continued development of flint is a no brainer. Compare that to other costs at the facility and it’s pretty minor. It’s probably double for flame and that’s still not a huge deal.
I’m happy to pay that amount for continued development on the product, especially at the fast pace of development of the last several years.

CheersWell, anyone who is on NDA and would really know couldn’t say if it was happening before it was announced.
Plus, I wouldn’t trust someone who would violate their NDA and say something….speaks to their integrity as an individual.
March 19, 2010 at 4:13 pm #218783Saran SirikasamsapParticipanttotally agree on that..the competitors [ are there really any ? 😉 ] could die because of their lower prices especially their software subscription IF any.

as an owner/artist, yeah the subscription thing is waaaaay better than it used to be. the thing that is still tough is keeping up with the Nvidia cards. Autodesk doesn’t let you upgrade JUST the grfx card. our 3D guys do it by themselves! machines that are routinely 2-3 years old can usually accept whatever the new card is.
under their newly announced HW upgrade program, it will cost us $28K to upgrade from the HPxw8400 to the z800. now multiply that by 3, and it’s still pretty rough. They really need to standardize that portion of the plan – we should be able to just swap out the grfx card if we want. clearly, in my case these machines are 2 old to fit the new FX5800sdi card, but if you own a HP9400 or HP8600, why can’t you!?!?!
as another owner/artist i’m curious to know your thoughts on it…
hope you are well…
Tim
