Hi guys, I’m posting for the first time here.
This might be an easy question…
I’m evaluating buying a Flame, I’m aware of the price tag and I already talked with Autodesk, but I wanted to hear from the experts what else do I need besides the system (HW & SW), the nice room and the operator…
I dont want to left some extra hardware out of the budget like a new digibeta, fiberchannel infrastructure and things like that.
Tnks in advance, I hope my question is clear enough.

Get at least 12×9 tablet in size. You will need a PC, to assist for file transfers, emails, etc… Get a low noise PC, nobody likes noise in a flame suite.
If possible, get a CRT graphics monitor, like GDM-FW 24″ Sony.November 21, 2006 at 10:24 pm #214518IsaacParticipantalso, don’t forget the actual console you put it on! you prob need a custom console built to house vga, broadcast and pc / mac monitor as well as audio board, some sort of wire conduit to house/hide all of the cables and extenders (no one wants to see cables draped all over the place) hopefully you can find a local carpenter / contractor that can build you something decent for not too much money.
also what about scopes? vector and waveform will come in handy sometimes!

Also try using Fetch software fof file transfersNovember 21, 2006 at 11:01 pm #214520Andrew PellicerParticipantI’ve been using C>me in our flame and smoke suites for about two years now, and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. C>me runs on a PC and lets you bring quicktime, avi’s, swf’s, frame sequences in/out of flame or smoke in the background. It also lets you use clips stored on the stone inside desktop apps (on any computer on your network) like encoding software, After Effects, etc without having to actually transfer any media to the PC. Also, it has 1-Click DVD encoding/authoring/burning built right in, for those times when an approval dvd needs to go out the door RIGHT NOW.
There are lot’s more features too. C>me will basically speed up your flame i/o infrastructure 10x. It makes things a hell of a lot easier and faster.

If you haven’t already got one, you’ll need a decent tri-level sync generator for flame to lock to. Optional, but highly recommended is a good sense of humour when working in client attended sessions 😀cheers
