Technical questions for compositors please, hope someone can help.

I have rendered out a sequence of z-depth images from Maya, during some parts where there is a big shift in depth information between a short frame range the jump in the luminance value is huge, causing flickering in AE where I am using the zdepth info for compositing.

Is there a way I can normalise the zdepth information in post rather than re-rendering the pass? I was thinking of just adjusting the value using levels in AE manually, but looking for a better solution if anyone knows one?

Here are 3 image sequences illustrating my question – http://www.vfxforge.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/zdepth.jpg

    Thank you in advance.

    John
