2. Are there any specialzation areas in compositing software like we have in 3D software (animator, modeller, lighting, texturing)? If Yes what r they?
3. Diff. between 2Dvfx and 3Dvfx?
4. How imp is to know a 3D software to become an VFX artist?
5. Diff between a 3D artist and VFX artist?November 1, 2006 at 2:05 pm #213884AnonymousInactiveI am sorry, i am not going to answer your questions but…
if you don´t see the difference between a 3d artist and a vfx artist, then you need to learn some more.
Star with photoshop, then with combustion. Once you have it or undersatnd it, try 3D.
This is the best way to see the difference.

A 3D artist is generally creating computer generated elements and images using software such as Maya, XSI, 3ds max etc. The end result could be a finished, complete shot (like Shrek) or an individual element that is used in a composite (like the flying saucers in Independence Day)
A vfx artist is more likely to find themselves combining several different images to create a finished shot. These can be a combination of live action footage, CG elements etc. vfx also includes removing elements from a shot, for example painting out wires and camera rigs.
Traditionally, 3D and vfx were two very separated skills, but today most 3D artists find themselves also working with vfx tools. ie, they “build” their 3D models in context with live action footage to minimise the amount of repair work needed further down the line.
Best thing you can do is get your head around as much software as possible as this will give you a good idea about how all these various creative processes are intedependant.
