Has anyone got decent results with this filter in Motion? I have some well shot bluescreen footage that I’ve been trying to work with and I’m getting better results with the chroma keyer in Final Cut Pro. I thought the Primatte keyer was suppose to be better. What gives???

Well, I think for such a cheap app it is pretty good. There could be some more parameters in its controls though. But the one in Shake is not much better, one seems to have to work on it a lot to get a good result, whereas in Motion I was surprised how good it sometimes looked with its autometic settings.
I am talking about Motion 1 here, btw.

Uwe WiesemannOctober 29, 2005 at 11:33 pm #210982robbyracerParticipantWell the keyer in FCP was better but only up to a point. I ended up exporting a series of dpx files and doing the comp in Shake. Once ya get in to the node groove it’s a pretty cool app.

What gives???I believe I read somewhere that the RT keyer in Motion is something of a proof of concept that uses Apple’s graphics card acceleration library. The article said that it would work OK for uncompressed footage, but no one actually uses Motion for uncompressed footage.
January 22, 2008 at 6:13 pm #210979AnonymousInactivePrimatteRT is an abbreviated version of Primatte that uses a single surface color separator to make the matte. The full Primatte uses a 256 surface polyhedron to separate the color surface…a world of difference. Apple chose to put the RT version in Motion because they could make it run in ‘real time’ using their GFX coprocessor. The full Primatte is too computationally intensive to do that using current hardware.
Amazingly enough, PrimatteRT does a pretty good job if the backing screen is evenly lit.
