We have had no sucess at all importing Maya camera data and .fbx files into our flame 8.02 (octane2) systems. We have selected the camera before importing, tried various export methods from Maya, even tried exporting the maya file as .txt then renameing as .action but nothing has worked. I know the new software is “buggy” but for a new featured option not to function at all is absurd.
If anyone out there has had any positive results let me know.
April 5, 2003 at 1:28 am #206932AnonymousGuesttry exporting maya camera to boujou, then boujou creats action setup. sometimes works. most new features on 8.0 don’t really work. truely frustrating
April 5, 2003 at 1:33 am #206933AnonymousGuestalso – you must use new multi camera feature to see anything. fbx exports a new camera that is linked to object nodes, Select camera1 in schematic, and camera 1 from context view.
Unfortunately, the only reliable method is to boujou 3d scene (yeah, render it out), then export that to an action from boujou. this worked in old version too.

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. Discreet is coming into our studio next week and installing
8.03. Maybe this will fix some of the many, many problems with the new software.November 14, 2005 at 12:17 am #206937PhilipParticipantYou need to download the fbx converter from alias site. Maya’s fbx version is greater than flame’s 8.5 or inferno 5.5. With this app you can make the fbx that flame can read 😉

I’d love to get the fbx converter needed to try this out.
Unfortunately, there are too many versions available for download which makes it almost a crap-shoot.
thanks!
November 16, 2005 at 4:58 pm #206934kalthansParticipanthave you tried this maya script:
http://www.fxguide.com/fxtips-182.html
we have had pretty good luck with it…it basically spits out an action that you can load directly into FFI.
i’ve found fbx way too buggy to deal with sometimes

You need to download the “converter” that makes fbx to fbx old version (6 i think) !
