So, I’m on this production team at my school and the short film we’re working on requires a decent amount of FX work of which I’m the main person to do all this. Welp, the director wanted me to create a jet engine blast for this one scene. The camera is shooting this car from behind so all the viewer sees is the backend and the turbine engines on the sides of the vehicle. The director says jet engines don’t really give off smoke too much but rather heat waves, like, extreme heat that makes things look wavy. I’m not sure how to approach starting this in Maya, I’m not exactly an expert in dynamics too much but I have a tremendous amount of interest in it.

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. The rough comp is due next Thursday and I need something to show.

This kind of effect its really easy in a post production software like Nuke…or after effects.

You only have to do a mask and distort the image in this area using the distort effetc.

Dont need dynamics at all…. 🙂
    Hope it helps.

Cool, thanks. I actually had someone last week give me this tutorial that told me to do the same thing. I appreciate your help though. 🙂
