I do hope someone here can help me. I am studying for an MA in Screenwriting for TV & Film and for my final assessment I need to submit an original feature film script and a theoretical document detailing the production requirements and possible budget of my film.
To create my theoretical budget document I need to establish how much the special effects would cost and how long they would take – I wonder if anyone could give me some idea?
My film is about an Avro Lancastrian aircraft that crashed mysteriously in the Andes in 1947 – the real-life ‘Stendec’ incident. I understand this will need to be achieved using 3D and computer animated special effects, complicated by the fact that no aircraft of this type exists anymore, only a similar model, the Lancaster Bomber, film of which I have been told could be adapted using CGI.
I know Flyboys cost $60m – and that the level of effects in my film is similar, however I’ve no idea how much of that $60m was spent on sfx.
My document is theoretical, so any figure, even a vague ball-park sum would be useful. I would be very grateful indeed!
Many thanks indeed for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
