Hi all
First post… please go easy on me.
I’m really into my vfx/cgi as a hobby and hoping to study it full time one day but there’s one thing which I can’t get my head around..
How do you “treat” a live action plate? For example, in this video of the making of I Am Legend, http://www.awntv.com/videos/i-am-legend-highlight-breakdowns, the narrator talks about adding dirt maps, vegetation, broken glass etc to live plates – how is this done? Modeled in Maya/Max/etc then tracked and composited?
Also how do you remove people/cars/etc from live footage? I assume it’s not done frame-by-frame?
Sorry if that’s a silly question but it’s been bugging me for months!
Cheers, Rick

But to integrate a 3d model in a live shot, you need to track the live footage to get a 3d camera that matches exactly the movement from the real camera. To remove something from a shot you have to remove it from every frame…otherwise will appear. There are many programs for that work like mocha pro for example. Take a look http://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/mocha-pro-remove-overview-fix-it-in-post/view
Hope it helps. -
