Kuban nailed it. The bottleneck in Flint is the O2’s lack of RGB to YUV color space conversion in hardware. That’s why Flint (effect option 3) can’t lay off material to tape directly from disk, it has to cache footge into RAM first. That limits the amount of playback time to the amount of RAM in your O2.
I don’t think this is entirely accurate. The o2 does a RGB24 -> RGB32 convert for tape output other way for input. That is a processing going on when going to or from tape. In the player you still cannot get real time playback even from memory because it is RGB24 as Kuban said. Oh, it’s all coming back to me… making my head hurt….starting to feel like 1998.
