Any recommendations on the fish-eye lens discussed on the podcast in relation to Realviz Stitcher?
December 12, 2006 at 7:21 pm #214648AnonymousInactiveIt depends on the camera –
You dont need the camera to do a full circular image to the CCD sensor – you could still patch 3 or more – but clearly with a camera like a canon D5 you could do 360 with just 2 shots.
The lens should do just more than 180 to allow for stitch overlap.Mike
December 12, 2006 at 7:32 pm #214652tomas madridParticipantWould you suggest, say, a Raynox High Definition Full-Frame 185 Degree Circular Fisheye Conversion Lens, 62mm, with Adapters for 52mm & 58mm?
Is there a particular lens you plan on using for this process?December 13, 2006 at 8:21 pm #214651tomas madridParticipantAnyone? Bueller? Bueller?
I really could have used this on POTC in Palmdale a few weeks ago. Does Realviz offer any suggestions for this? I’ve perused their web site but can’t find any specific info. I’m sure I could figure this out, but anyone who has already gone through the trial and error I’m sure could save me some headaches.

It’s major limitation is not being able to see up and down, but I’m wondering what would happen if I fitted a fisheye to this camera. I’ll let you know what happens if I go that route.

if the CCD is large enough for a full 185 image to be registered – then yes you can do it in 2 shots… other wise you’ll need to do 3 or more shots.. but it will still work.mike

I have been doing research and I got this from one of the senior people at REALVIZ for you:
“The Raynox lens does not have constant distortion across the plane of the lens. I have not had good results with the Raynox lens. My Suggestion is either a Fisheye Converter like a FC-E9 or a 4.88mm from Coastal Optical. “

December 20, 2006 at 9:37 pm #214649tomas madridParticipantWow, really?…they recommend a coolpix camera over a DSLR? Based on the camera suggestions on The Coastal Optical site, i’d guess it has not been updated in close to a decade. I followed their link to the only listed sales rep, a company in Germany whose site makes no mention of selling these lenses, (even searching for the specific name.) Coastal’s “info request page” gives an error “500.” I’m waiting for an email response at the moment.
