My question is why do all the samples have a black background?

Well..you’d have to ask the folks at Red about the black background. But what is quite interesting about the background is the dynamic range of the sensor. There is really tremendous amount of detail in the shadows, without a lot of noise.

I saw the projected images at IBC was really impressed with them. At NAB I was cautiously skeptical about the project — and still am cautious — but boy I am much more optimistic (fxphd/fxguide are camera #22 in the queue).

Even more impressive were the images which ran through the compression algorithm…really nice, with no discernable mosquitoing…..

Have they yet disclosed the specifics of Red Code? How much color grading latitude will you be losing in that compression?
