hi all,
i am a compositor/field co ordinator from india
about to go to shot some sequences outdoor
shot involves multiple 3d elements to be compositied
as of now i know to some extent about setting track points
in live scene.but i would like to know much abt do n dont’s
and more helpful tips about setting up ref track points in the scene.
the inportant thing is that the camera has motions in all axis.
it may have camera pan, zoom and rotation even in z axes.
i plan to use maya live 4 tracking n combustion for composite
ans i am eagerly waiting for response from u all. Thanks .

Is the shoot in complete croma, full croma or pure live shoot?
Cause if its Pure live shoot and the cam isnt moving franticly, then you xtract the cam movements by using softs such as Boujou (the new ver is fast too). The detailes of thelive elements work as the tracking elements for such softs. And then import the extracted track data along with extracted cam lense to maya or 3dsmax. Rest all is piece of ‘WadaPaw’ 🙂
And if the shoot involvs partial croma shoot with the rest of the bg, even then its not much difficult. The above technique will work with careful tracking points planted and extracted again.
But if the wild cam movements are happening in the Green room, then the situation is difficult (not impossible) without a Motion Control Cam.
Though, I’d use MatchMover which has some good features to jump between the trackers (like a monkey who jumps between one branch to another) that are spread around the room. The task is unpredictable
but possible for sure and has worked around the world after careful pre, while shoot and post work.Depending on the location & situation, also keep a backup plan (for tracking) so that if the master plan does not give you satisfactory result, then …….. 😉
thats my .02 cents
cheers
