Question, what is the technique for creating a rotoscoping mask on a specific layer where the object is animated while going infront and behind a masked area.(mask is not animated)

**Example: you have footage of a background scene with trees, then over this layer is an animated layer; like a flaming bomb being fired, I want the bomb layer to be masked (at the trees) so it flies infront of and behind the tree elements of the background. I’ve tried to place the masks on the flaming bomb layer but with no success. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m fairly new at Combustion however I can accomplish this same technique in Digital Fusion with no problems. Thanks!

    Hi

If you don’t have to rescale the foreground clip you can use the paint tool:

-Load the bkg and add a paint op.
-Add a big square in reveal or clone mode, select the frg as the image to reveal,
-select the shape you drowe, hit CTRL+L to lock it.
then add all the paint-shapes (revert mode) you need for masking the trees and the other stuff.

If you have to rescale, or rotate the frg clip,
you can add a 3th layer (of a composition) with the masked bkg.
