It includes, Cleaner, 3DS Max and Combustion, also autodesk plans to sell the rest of Discreet. Thoughts on this
December 10, 2003 at 11:47 pm #207381AnonymousGuestSo far this is a rumor reported in a forum on one web site. http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34970. There is a lot of discussion there, but no real facts that I have seen.

December 12, 2003 at 5:51 am #207382AnonymousInactiveWhat about graphics cards? I wouldn’t dream of working in some of the scenes I create on anything less than a Quadro4 980, and I haven’t seen anything more than gamer-grade cards featured on the Mac. Am I missing something, or are my scenes just way overboard in complexity?

Do you think we woke up one day using PC or Linux. Nope. Before they were here we used Atari St, Amiga, and many more.
December 12, 2003 at 7:04 am #207383AnonymousInactiveActually it’s the 3d side of things I woryy about rather than compositing. I run around in 3ds max and combustion, and the models in 3ds max get fairly fierce. Not uncommon to be dealing with 1-2 million polys, and a gaggle of lights and effects. If Macs can handle that, I’ll be quiet and see what happens.
I also worry in principle about apps that have to run on hardware I can’t build myself. I haven’t bought a machine with a label on it since my IBM XT
(except for my notebook), and I really like being able to choose everything for maximum performance or compatability.December 12, 2003 at 8:09 am #207387AnonymousInactiveI must say sorry. I am an Apple die-hard fan. I would never like to see someone as yourself; feel the pinch, if it were to happen. If it were to happen, which it may not, I hope they do provide support for users like yourself. Apple needs dedicated users. I can see that someone like you is dedicated. If they were to purchase Discreet and stop development for the Linux, Unix, and Windows community then I too would be angry. I don’t like Monopolies. I like companies that compete. I like companies that innovate. Once again I have gained knowledge from another person in a forum. For that, Thank you.
December 12, 2003 at 3:53 pm #207384AnonymousInactiveActually, I’m not a die hard PC zealot. As an architect, and design junkie, I’ve always admired the innovation that Apple has, and how they keep MS and the PC makers on their toes. I learned 3d in 3d studio DOS r2, and painted my textures in Animator Pro. My career in 3d has grown up with 3ds max, and the thought of the investment in my shop being marginalized by needing to go Mac is somewhat scary. I’ve considered getting a Mac for on-line in FCP, and I use the Macs at the school I teach at sometimes. Working cross platform isn’t a problem – with the exception of 3d. If Apple buys discreet, and the graphics card makers port to Mac, and they didn’t let 3ds max wither on the vine, I’d make the switch. I just don’t want to be forced into a less than adequate solution.
