    Hello,

I’m planning on getting a setup that allows me to do final color grading on my computer. I heard the most important thing in order to get a good reference signal is to output an HD signal (which uses YCbCr color space) as opposed to running a screen as a computer monitor (using some form of RGB color space), as it’s the different color spaces that cause all the gamma shifting issues etc. when outputting.

The most common option to get an HD signal would be a BlackMagic, Matrox or Kona card (for around $200), however, these don’t run on my pre-Intel Dual G5 Power Mac. The only cards/converters I found for my system so far are the Matrox MXO and Blackmagic DeckLink HD extreme, both of which cost around $1000.

I’m not sure if I want to spend so much money on this computer. Do any of you know of a cheaper card or converter that runs on my system, or a different way to get a reliable signal for color grading? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Peter

Contact Flanders Scientific, they can help you out, as well as making the best monitors on the market at the best prices.

    Better get MacPro.
