Has anyone heard anything about new realeses in the near future? Don’t want to buy now and have to again soon.
Also does anyone have any feelings on Subscription? I just wonder how they can come out with enough releases per year to make it worth while, without totaqlly leaving behind whatever peercentage of users don’t Subscribe.
ThanksFebruary 1, 2005 at 5:16 pm #209189Andy MilkisParticipantI’m a big fan of subscription for two reasions: Depending on which system(s) you have or are purchasing, it’s a decent savings over support plus the cost of upgrades. I am not sure of your situation, but I can tell you that it always is uncomfortable having to go to the boss and ask for $$$$$ for a software upgrade. To be able to present a “support” budget for the year that is a fixed cost is a much easier sell.

BKMNovember 4, 2005 at 9:19 pm #209193AnonymousInactiveI heard that FFI will run on pc from the next year……now I can’t tell if they will sell it on certificated hardware (even if I think so), but the final price will be a little bit cheaper let’s say from 500,000$ to 400,000$.
Now assuming that is real how much we will pay for the software?
How much can a tuned pc costs nowadays? 30,000$? 40,000$? I don’t think more.November 5, 2005 at 5:56 pm #209182AnonymousGuestit’s always been that way, though…even on SGI! A souped-up tezro is around $40K, I think, and the stones are another $20K. That’s 1/3rd to 1/4th of the cost of a flame license depending on who you talk to. It would be awesome if linux flame/smoke ran on this:
http://www.digitalvideoediting.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=33905It’d whomp a tezro pretty thoroughly, I think.

November 6, 2005 at 12:26 am #209194AnonymousInactiveThat’s cool man.
I never worked over a boxx but I always heard good about them.
Let’s wait to see the final price.November 6, 2005 at 3:18 am #209186eltopoParticipantIs there any possibility that release FFI for mac and pc?
I think a new quad G5 with 2 Nvidia Q FX4500 can handle the FFI…
November 6, 2005 at 10:46 am #209183AnonymousGuestA guy who works in post with mac told me that flame & inferno will run in osx next year Oo
November 6, 2005 at 6:44 pm #209185higginba_vbParticipanthahaha…we all work in post! you’ve gotta do better than that if you’re gonna post anonymous trolls. at least say he works at discreet or apple!
November 6, 2005 at 8:11 pm #209187eltopoParticipantIm crossing my fingers waiting for it to be true. After all SGI is going nowhere…
The other thing is the Price. I dont think they can continue to charge those $$$$ for their systems…
Maybe Apple should buy Autodesk… at least their media and entertainment division…
November 7, 2005 at 10:30 pm #209195AnonymousInactiveOh my God, not that!!
It would be hell on earth…please leave Apple close to its fruit stuff and to his father Mr. Jobs and far from softwares supposed to run on both systems….
I remember few years ago Mac users always complaint about Microsoft huge power…but what Apple is doing at the moment?copying from the giant?
BEst regardsNovember 7, 2005 at 11:47 pm #209197AnonymousInactiveI do not believe that the FFI go for the apple no launching for MAC, Combustion 4 for apple nor were launched still (I believe that this either the only software of discreet for MAC, the Cleaner was discontinued not?t) New softwares of the Autodesk as the Toxik had been launched for windows and or Linux. Beyond PC’s they offer 8 cores (Quad Opteron Dual Core), as ja was said previously.
November 8, 2005 at 2:55 am #209188eltopoParticipantYes and No. LLustre is coming to the mac, including a new powerbook version.
The mac is that things has changed a lot since the days nobody gave a cent for Apple. Pro cards appeared, very fast processors, a real UNIX OS. Besides with the switch to Intel the hardware will be very similar. However the software will make the difference.
Mac OS X is more robust than Windows and more versatile than Linux. Plus it has some major apps such as FCP, Motion, etc, that are transforming the landscape of postptoduction therefore having something like Flame on mac system where it can interact with Photoshop, Maya, Motion, DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Pro will be an incredible asset for anyone working on any DI work.
