Hello: one of the CG artists where I work brought up a very interesting method called TONE MAPPING, does anyone here have any insight on this method and how to apply results with nodes in Fusion?

I’m supposing its a way of getting more or less info out of image that may be present. (somehow going beyond ranges?) Not sure…..

I just don’t know much about the subject but wanted to learn more. Thanks for your help!

as it was explained to me…

Its almost like adjusting the “energy values” of an 16/32 bit image. Ex. Where an image that might have blown out whites one may be challenged with compressing various values. (Like when doing a gamma adjustment or Levels)

so I believe its a way to get to higher or lower value adjustments of a 16/32 bit pic that aren’t there visually but are in the data info. ?? Is this making any sense?

I’m abit unsure myself, so if I’ve confused you..sorry.

How do people normally go about dealing with highlights in an HDR composite? Is it usual to just let them clip, or use some soft curve at the top to include the full HD range in the LDR output? Or in between? Or what?

Along my original question…. I was also curious how this is handeled with everyday nodes in Fusion. I was wondering if this is done with a BC node or Curves Node? Thank you

Well for starters you can try using CC node and on master do gain downa gamma up : )

Try it. Its not adaptive algorit. but it can work.
