hey mathieu,
i have txk on both linux and 64bit windows. my personal favorit is linux. it feels abit faster. but it is only a personal view. if you go windows definitaly go for 64bit. i´m on rh ws 5 and this works great. if you have an iff machine available you could throw it on that. works fine as well.
hope this helps,nanuk
December 4, 2008 at 8:40 pm #217356janek tomekParticipantHi! I know that Toxik 2009 for OS X will be release soon because Autodesk will be at the Macworld 09 with Toxik…if it can interest you…

wouldn´t put too much in it. they will release, but to apples current “reordering” osx it is hard to develop on that plattform. if you want a quick and reliable box go for linux 64bit.
cheers nanuk

Are you sure?? This would be great news if this was true. Where did you hear this?
Thanks

December 5, 2008 at 1:31 pm #217357janek tomekParticipantHi! I already tested a beta version on Mac and it’s pretty stable. Some couple of bugs needs to be fix but now I feel that Shake will disappear really soon….
December 5, 2008 at 2:01 pm #217352micheal WilliamsParticipantThat’s absolutely fantastic news. Thanks so much for the heads up.
December 6, 2008 at 2:06 am #217347tscholtonParticipantI have a couple of questions about your post.
First, if a reseller let you play with a beta version on an unreleased platform without an NDA that would seem unusual and wrong.
Second, you say “I feel that Shake will disappear really soon” which is confusing since Shake has been discontinued for years now and there are already Mac versions of other compositing packages with a whole lot bigger market share than Toxik.
Don’t get me wrong I have been a fan of the idea of Toxik for almost 10 years now and I don’t think a Mac version is a bad idea, but I fail to see that particular move as one that would massively increase Toxik’s adoption.

December 7, 2008 at 11:01 pm #217353Dan CarrParticipantHi
I also not believe that a Mac version could increase sale too. But maybe…I hope they will continue their developement on this product. A lot of money have been push and sale aren’t there. Hope they will not stop it as they are up to release a new compositing package…As I don’t like release confidential info, I’ll just stop here. But fact is, wihout major sale, Toxik source code could sold…So apple version remenber me somethink when shake release mac version…
And Jeff, I’m from Montreal, so discreet are guys next door. Some people here have been software developper on Smoke. We’ve been also fan of Toxik even before the first release. It is still a outsider (maybe even not) as well it’s seems really strong. Why?
my two cents, even less.
December 8, 2008 at 9:14 am #217355Oscar NordParticipantMaybe Toxik on OSX is the answer to the “Apple phenomenon”? 😉 mmm without EDL…
I think some Osx user was disappoint about the GUI of shake (I don’t talk about Highend compositor people), but maybe with Toxik is can be more User friendly than shake and Nuke?December 8, 2008 at 1:16 pm #217358janek tomekParticipantHi Jeff, thanks for your interest! The reason why I’ve been able to try a beta version is because I’ve been part of “Frantic beta project” for Autodsesk. Also , the reason why I say that I feel that it’s the end of Shale is that the other Compositing softwares available on Mac platform since now doesn’t bring that much extras than Shake already has. There is a reason why Autodesk still doing Maya for os x (which I’m not sure to understand because Maya is much powerfull on WIndows platform because of graphic cards) but this is probably the same reason why they are preparing a Toxik version for Mac.
December 8, 2008 at 1:18 pm #217359janek tomekParticipantToxik has nothing to do with Apple Phenomenon thing…..Unless you are used to work with Flame or inferno, you wouldn’t find Toxik that much “user friendly”….
December 8, 2008 at 11:54 pm #217350Saran SirikasamsapParticipant“but I fail to see that particular move as one that would massively increase Toxik’s adoption. “
>> i think the point here is no matter what platform it runs on, toxik needs more development/toolset etc. personally i love it, but it aint nuke or flame.period.
December 12, 2008 at 7:46 pm #217354Dan CarrParticipantTo me, it looks like Toxik 1 came out with the wrong price point and not as a complete tools solution…The worlfow with Oracle server were good, but every big post-house already had implement specific solution and invested a lot in it. Toxik wasn’t a solution at this time. So it seems like they just “kill the baby”. Now with standalone, 2009, 64bit, a very good interface, annd a very good maya toxik worklow, Toxik is mature. Everythink is there but an artist community. If discreet can ship more and more tools from flame as it appears each year, then flame artist would maybe have more interest and be more efficient on it. I miss the 3D tracker, and modular keyer a lot. Some animation fonction and particle too. I like to be abble to upgrade the system by my self. I would love to see more GPU capability while rendering. I know it’s a flame I lookinng for 3500$.
