Hi there,
Little bit of a newbie question here. I am trying to learn smoke on mac on one of our systems here and and I having a little bit of difficulty wrapping my head around the tracker.
I have a shot that pulls out over the course of 150 frames. Lets say I bring in a frame of white that I want to place over an object in the foreground. I track the object using scale and rotation ( which tracks perfectly) then scale the object down, move the frame of white and it doesn’t lock at all.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks
Liam

Check to see if your scale axis is before, or after the tracked axis, the order matters. If however, you’re are doing a track on the surface, you have to edit the offsets instead, which you’ll find in the same box you selected the tracker in.
Hope that helps,
Ant

So if you were doing a 2 point track with scale , do you put the 2nd axis below the 1st ?
and then invert everything ?thanks
sorry for all the questions

Can we just rewind back to the beginning ? Are you using the Timeline to track or are you working in the action 3D Compositor? The principles being them are the same however but it the steps and buttons will vary.
I have actually recorded a video showing how to track with position and scale and than repositioning the layer.

This part of a bigger presentation that I did last year at NAB 2011….
In the Smoke Learning Channel, you should find loads of useful stuff to help you along the way.
Best of Luck!

I am using Action on the desktop. The issues I continue to get are when I track a surface then scale it down with an offset axis. The surface ( just a solid color) then doesn’t lock up to when it is being tracked to. Lastly, I notice sometimes that when I track a surface using scale when it is done tracking the scale is set a lot higher then it originally was. For example, lets say I use a solid again , track it to an object using scale and rotation. When I come out of the tracker the scale is set to 160% as opposed to 100%.
I will take a look at the video you posted however and thank you very much for your reply.
