    Hi all, first post and new member too! I was told there were some very good pros here willing to help 😀 well here it goes:

    I am doing an animation piece where there are subtle changes in shade, creating rather obvious banding effects. I am using VRay in 3ds Max, is it possible to render and image taking into account the higher range required to eliminate banding by applying dither or some other noise-based gradient?

    Well, it seems I found a way: render 16 bit (you will still see the banding), then downgrade to 8bit in PS and automatic dither is performed.

    render to 16 bit or floating point for your post production work.

    Render to VRay image file – this feature writes directly to an external file that contains VRay raw data as it is being rendered. It does not store any data in the RAM, so this feature is very handy when rendering huge resolutions for preserving memory. In order to see what is being rendered – turn on the Generate preview setting…………
