Hey this might be redundant to a lot of you but thought I’d post it anyway because it’s bugged me for a while.

If you are comping a shot with say a frame range from 222000-223000 (e.g. if the shot’s named according to its frame positioning in the cut) and you need to use an element that has a frame range of say 1-100, you can use the Retime node to effectively re- number the element so that both sequences play down in the Global Timeline.

To do this plug a Retime node onto the sequence you want to change, check both the input frame range boxes and check the first output range only and type 222000 (or whatever your start frame needs to be) to retain the original length of the sequence. Obviously check the second output range box and type in the end frame you need baring in mind this will retime the clip accordingly.

There are probably heaps of other ways to do this but it works for me.

I think the node designed with this job in mind was the TimeOffset node, probably ends up doing the exact same thing as your retime but it’s a lot simpler, you just slot in an offset value in frames plus or minus and it shifts your clips range accordingly.

Like you say though this operation wasn’t immediately obvious to me either so I’m sure there are a bunch of other nodes/workarounds to do the same thing.

Nuke could really use a dope sheet or clip timeline to make things easier. Even just an offset or framerange setting in the read nodes would be nice to keep things simple.
