VFX Classes, programs, etc…help!?

I am a video producer/director/editor/shooter, with some limited compositing experience in After Effects. I’m in Chicago.

I want to get into VFX (for films and games), and am wondering which program(s) I should learn. I plan to take a private class (which is pricey), so I want to pick the right program.

This stuff is fairly new to me: Nuke, Combustion, Digital Fusion, etc. I’m not a techie, so I don’t know which one to spend my time and money on. I’m also not a programmer or engineer. I guess I want to know what ‘overall’ program would be worth learning.

Any advice on programs and/or classes (schools) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
