Hey guys, I am currently pursuing my education in CG and visual effects now and about to go into the visual effects stream and also in the stages of pre-planning for my vfx demo reel shots and story so I was thinking of asking you professional senior guys what kind of shots/storylines should I strive for and also what kind of CG integration and comping skills should I try to achieve and focus on and master for my demo reel so that its easier for me to get a job in the industry and also stand out apart from the generic VFX reels coming out from schools these days. I got a few cool ideas but not sure its the right way to go. I want to try and use as much skillsets as I can for my demo reel piece.
We are being taught Nuke here and PFTTrack for tracking but generally we can do anything for our demo reel. I got access to realflow and renderman etc too.
I really want to get a kickstart in working in the film industry and I reside in Vancouver now which is also a great place to start off and the competition here is big. I read that most vfx grads from school start off as a roto artist or matchmover and it would be really hard to get a job as a compositor or an effects artist. Care to share what direction I should take on my upcoming VFX reel? Thanks for your replies
