I’m in my final stage of VFX school and wanted to get you all’s thoughts/suggestions on what software you’d recommend to create your demo reel. I’m a digital compositor that has been trained solely on Nuke. I understand that many companies utilize AE for their composite work so I am leaning toward this (nice way to familiarize myself with the other compositing tool widely used in the industry). I also have Final Cut Pro 7 and Premier Pro (I hear both have advantages with regards to music/soundtrack). I have used all of these at most once before just messing around but would definitely need to take the time and learn/view some kind of vid tutorial to get up to speed. I have one month to get this thing together and realize that there will be a learning curve regardless of which program I choose. The first submission is this upcoming friday (rough render proof) with just our final shots (3) put together without any touch ups. In summary, if you all could give your recommendations based on my needs and the ability to put together a nice reel (based on my lack of experience), I’d greatly appreciate it.
Things I’d like to have on my reel are:
-Split screen of the comp (Final, Alpha, and matte overlay)
-Wipes of the original footage and the final comp
-Some kind of effect that shows breakdowns and set extension
-Music or soundtrackI don’t know if I can get all or some of these in the programs I listed but hopefully so.
Thank you FXPHD Community/Artists! -
