Hey Guys!
I am planning to go freelancing soon and i want to buy a new machine. I am currently on a 2 year old macbook pro with an SSD which works ok for most of jobs but i want to upgrade big time now.
Most of the time I do Compositing and Motion Design with AE and some Cinema 4D. I just started with 3D Business but i want to do and learn more on Visual Effects Stuff like Smoke, Realflow( more than modeling and animating in 3D ).
So my first Idea was a full configurated iMac 27 with 32 Ram, 680MX 2 Gig for about 3000$ Right now i can not wait for the Mac Pro to arrive.
On the other Hand – If i go deeper into Visual FX Plugins ( like Fume FX for example ) do i HAVE to switch to Windows OS in the long run to be successfull in VFX? In that case i would consider going to a Windows Machine because it is also much cheaper. I don’t rely on Mac OSX because i do all my daily businesses within Chrome.
In Conclusion – i don’t want ( and can’t effort ) the best machine on the planet, but it should be a solid foundation for the next 3 years for a single person freelance work. 80 % of my work will be Motion Design in After Effects but i want to get better and start more VFX Heavy Projects. So it shouldn’t be to weak and i need your recommendation if Mac or Windows OS when it comes to Plugin based work. Also i don’t like 3DsMax sometimes it seems inevitable to work with..
Thanks in advance!
