New key features in Smoke 6.7

HD I/O on the IBM 6224 in a Linux environment (Smoke only)
Support for Apple Final Cut Pro XML format
Wiretap 1.5 support; this API lets 3rd party developers integrate into their applications the ability to read/write StoneFS-compatible clips to/from a Autodesk® Stone® Direct disk array
Dual Link HSDL Support (Smoke DI only)
2K data sent 4:2:2 on one link and 0:2:2 on second link
2K data via video I/O subsystem

    From http://www4.discreet.com/smoke/smoke.php?id=174

Now how and if it works… I’m not sure. Still running 6.5. And I use AE.

And actually now that I think about it… with your version of Smoke.. didn’t they incorporate WIRETAP? And then doesn’t combustion see the Stones and can simply transfer files directly to it?

As far as importing in to smoke… I am not sure that QT PNG is supported.

QT uncompressesd/Animation I imagine would be your best in quality would it not? But your movie size might be too large. Check the export options in Smoke and look at the QT codecs… then pick one of those to encode with.

Without knowing how much you need to import… QT imports very fast on my Oct2 with short 10-30sec clips with alpha breakout.

.Tiff / .Tga sequece might be good as well if you don’t have audio.

And why not Smoke 6.7 (v7) on an SGI Tezzro?
As you are already familiar with SGI via your octane. And I would imagine (hope) that you could transfer Spark licenses around to the Tezzro with a phone call.

I guess you really ment to say SMOKE here.

On a 3 point edit I would use OVERWRITE… instead of replace… that would eliminate the TW.

in order for you to get you 4×3 to be 16×9… wow.. you are going to have to stretch/blowup the hell out of it. Resize will work… just play with the settings and see what works best for your video. Fill/Letterbox/center crop etc.

You might want to re-ask the question in a new post……

You will hopefully get a better answer than this, since I don’t do a lot of tracking… but here goes.

    One way:

You can track in the DVE, but you can only trak the back clip. So if you place the TV shot as your back, and the fill you want as L1, you can go into SURFACE and change to bilinear… this will give you the ability to do a 4-point track. then to the right of all that is a stabilize/track button. When you enter that you will see your back clip and your tracking markers. Track your 4 points and when you backup a menu (exit) your L1 clip should be coorner pined into the 4 point tracks.

Adjust with offsets and such to get it just right.

    How’s that?

Does anyone have a copy of the discreet showreel from this year? I kept meaning to ask one of the discreet girls if they had DVDs available but I didn’t get a chance.

Checking to see if you made the cut??? I know I am… hope they post it online soon.

Not to confuse the issue… but isn’t this what the Tryptic(sp?) Tripple view on the time line is used for?? You can see 3 shots on the timeline and can Adjust CC as needed?

I never have used the feature so I might be high.

    THINGS TO COME:

    SMOKE

    – Motion (slomo) in Timewarp

    – clip history

    – History displayed in a batch tree

    – Finalcut meta data import

    – Burn render

    – new ways of working instead of containers

    – Integrated text module in timeline

    – Keycode in edl manager

    – fonts can be directly imported

Speak more to me about “New way of working instead of containers.”
    and the History function.

It looks like they really boosted the timeline aspect of Smoke… really nice since it is an EDITOR.

Can’t wait for the full reports.

Not really sure what you want to do.. so I’ll just throw some stuff out.

IF you enter the DVE with none… then you can load any clip from you rdesk to any layer or the bkg. Now when you do that it will ask for Video and Matte. Traditionally you load a single frame of white for the matte if you want video to be full… if you leave it on (internal) for the matte you can’t go in to keyer.

Once you have the clip loaded you can go into keyer, or Color Correct. Located under AXIS.

The only difference in a layer vs background is that the background doesn’t react to 3D space and has no axis ability. You can however, CC it if needed.

    Helpful? IF not… ask again.

    Jumping in here….

So if I disbale the scanformat warnings can you load a f1 clip in Action/DVE with a P matte? Will supressing the error give you the ability to perform this?? Or do you still have to change the flag?

Also, is there a cool trick to loading 8bit and 10 bit sources together?

Yes.. very nice. Looks like they got HD working for Smoke on Linix.

I wonder what they Flame/Smoke bundle costs on Tezero? If it was similar to the Smoke/Flint deal a while back on Linix… that would be cool.

I hope this isn’t Auto-screets answer to fixing Smokes compositing issues… but it’s not a horrible idea.

Maybe it’s an NAB quick fix to spark some press.

I believe that the software is the same. Just the hardware is different. This give Fire the ability to have more Real-Time uses for larger film size files and higer bit rates.

    Think Smoke = TV/Broadcast/HD Fire=Faster HD/Film/2K
