Yes and No. LLustre is coming to the mac, including a new powerbook version.

The mac is that things has changed a lot since the days nobody gave a cent for Apple. Pro cards appeared, very fast processors, a real UNIX OS. Besides with the switch to Intel the hardware will be very similar. However the software will make the difference.

Mac OS X is more robust than Windows and more versatile than Linux. Plus it has some major apps such as FCP, Motion, etc, that are transforming the landscape of postptoduction therefore having something like Flame on mac system where it can interact with Photoshop, Maya, Motion, DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Pro will be an incredible asset for anyone working on any DI work.

I did not know that about AE for Windows. Although I am not surprised.
Is stupid that love-hate relationship between Adobe and Apple, when clearly both should be lovers… specially now that Microsoft decided to follow Apple and make their own pro-graphics Apps.

And about the card, I would do the same thing. At least on paper the 7800GT and the FX4500 don’t seem to be very far apart…

    Until now…

it will be interesting so see some specs of Shake, Motion and After Effects running on Quad G5 with the FX4500. I saw some informal test with Modo (the 3d App) and apparently the Quad g5 is indeed twice as fast as the old Dual G5.

And about the Mac, everybody knows that once you go Mac it becomes almost a religion and the PC’s start to look like the devil (actually is not PC’s per se but rather that annoying company from Redmond WA)

Anyway, even though Flame does thins differently that Apps on the Mac, you can achieve the same results just in a different way, being the biggest change in my opinion the fact that you start working with Quicktime…

Im crossing my fingers waiting for it to be true. After all SGI is going nowhere…

The other thing is the Price. I dont think they can continue to charge those $$$$ for their systems…

Maybe Apple should buy Autodesk… at least their media and entertainment division…

I am almost certain the Pro Tools HD can.

logic can process 32bit float but not sure it can output it…

Is there any possibility that release FFI for mac and pc?

    I think a new quad G5 with 2 Nvidia Q FX4500 can handle the FFI…

I think combustion is appearing to the Mac. And about Shake, yes it is the most powerful comp software for the Mac. I’ve seen it work on a G5 and it is quite good. Plus you get a lot of extras such a lower price and free render licenses for other macs.

Plus I guess it will be the first program to support 64-bit on the Mac.

And bout combustion continuity on the Mac. The new pro cards and the rumour of an early switch to Intel can only mean that Combustion should get a lot faster on future versions, specially since a lot of people are switching to the Mac mainly because of mac only Apps (FCP, Motion, etc.)

I suggest you either get After Effects or Combustion. If you wish to eventually get to work on a Discreet System try Combustion, you can even download a free demo to try it out.

Or get After Effects (what I would recommend) It is easier to learn because its GUI is much closer to other graphic programs like Photoshop. AE works great with Illustrator and Photoshop which is quite a blessing.

Both Combustion and After Effects are used by a lot of people to do professional work, including myself. They run on PC’s or Macs along with everything from MS Office to Maya.

And they even have some features that they big boys still don’t have.

Well you can buy node rendering licenses from Apple for each of your machines. eachone cost about $1000 for non mac machines.

If you use macs the licenses for rendering on other machines are free.

I agree when you look at the specs between the GT7700 and the FX4500 the difference is very little. I wonder if we are going to see ATI cards in a short timeframe or we will have to wait until the swith to Intel.

This might be worrysome since all points out that the Powermac line will be the last to swith to Intel…

The FX4500 supports 2 dualink DVI and one stereo connector for stereoscopic visualization.

If you want HDMI support you need a blackmagic deckling or an AJA Kona Card
