ericParticipantHi,
I come from AE world an I’ve switch to Flame and now being a freelancer I’m back in AE.
The differences beteewn FLAME and AE are many.First of all FLAME is a “BOX”, a all you can do package. You do everything inside and should (theoricaly) be able to satisfy any needs.
AE is a software more graphic oriented or by preference turn out to be graphic oriented. AE is open andyou can import many different object coming from differents sources (and have interactions with other adobe products).
By contrast FLAME is more a compositing tool, let see it like a big photoshop, an animated one while AE is an animated Illustrator with great photoshop capabilities.
Flame interface is mean to work fast and the real time thing is really apprecable.
AE have this experimental side (in my sense) also mean to work fast but
do not have the real time engine. But with a good machine its not far from it on certain jobs.To answer your question about the front and back matte, lets take an exemple: check out kuban altan ” catch me if you can, like tutorial”
Be able to move your matte or front image is really usefull for distortions, mapping, glass reflexion.
I’ve complited a shot where the reflexion of a monster and a super hero have to be put on a multi glass mesh buliding. That helped a lot for displacement, distortions etc…
Also ifyou interested in FLAME as a graphic tool is a must use. Doesn’t need to have a picture, the use of front and back matte apply to any asset. In AE the same thing is use with the Trackmatte in the timeline.
Well this is my way of seeing those to soft. Can stay to talk more GF is calling mad ” come to eat?_)(!!!!”
more to come
hope that hepl

I am looking to do a M:F:A in Vifual effects/3d… ect.Hi,
If travel is an option and i have to say that is really good to do so (i’m currently working in China) you might consider a school called SUPINFOCOM in northern FRANCE.
I didn’t attend this one but most of there student find work without looking for it and a lot of them been getting award worldwide.
I’ts mainly 3D oriented but they do everything. And all student could do compositing, 3D and else.
The school insription fee is not too high and definitly its not a bogus to suck u off.
Check on any 3D festival or gfx, Motion design or else CG book or magazine for sure you’ll find their student work in many pages.Of course I’m not saying “go there and you will be a killer” just saying the environment might be good and the pedagogy not too bad if they are so successfull.
I could only recommend french or European ones, i know only about those.
good luckthe website is all in french (sorry, that suck i know)

I’ve been working in tvc and broadcast for a while in a Post house (china), now i’m a freelancer and its even worst coz i’m now using only after effect so its sometime a nightmare with rendering time.
But to be honest, this situation develop some different skills, its not all bad. -
