Got to love it!!! I deal with this all the time. Just amazes me how the camera somehow mysteriously moves, especially with a shot of that magnitude! Is the camera “that” far off on the plates? Can the plates be manipulated at all to line up? Its a shame when you attempt to do your best work and ignorance restricts you! and it ends up being “it is what it is” Without the elements in front of me its tough to consider, especially Monday morning. LOL Good luck, im sure you will find some answers here.

Another opinion here. I can only tell you that right now the way the industry is going or is right now, you will find it hard pressed to find anything regarding Flame, in LA. Most companies are on hiring freezes, pay reductions and are down to half the staff they normally acquire. Right now im not so sure if you could even find a “staff” Flame artist position right now, companies cant afford high paid guys/gals sitting around. If they have a job they will bring in freelance(no insurance, no workmans comp, no liability, no taxes etc) Not to say that it wont pick up towards the 4th. quarter and there after, but right now its tough. I have on an average 3-6 flame artist calling me a month who will work for “FREE” just to get on the box to maintain their skills. Not that we would not pay someone, but just letting you know that these Flame artist that were once extremely busy are now fighting just to get on a box! If your truly interested in learning Flame and you have 3K to throw around, you should look into Autodesk training facility. I also believe or at least when I went many years ago they also rented Flames by the hour. That way you could maintain your skills. The likelihood of going into a large facility other than an “intern” chances are, it wont happen. Too corporate and too much of a liability to have someone sitting in and learning with another artist. The artist in larger facilities are there to perform, not sit around and teach outsiders. You may have a better chance in a smaller shop where the owner also runs Flame and is willing to take your cash. I have taught many people Flame throughout the years and never charged them a dime, I actually get satisfaction from teaching others. Depending on how much you actually know and what specifically you want to learn, I wouldn’t mind helping you out. But keep in mind that even though you may think you know Flame, doesn’t mean you will be able to run out and get a job!! Flame is just a tool to help elaborate your creativity, your vision and your artistic ability. Dealing and understanding clients is also an art in itself. Keep doing what your doing and be persistent, good things will come.

P.S. Drop me a line and we can talk. I can also give you some insight on where most of the industry is posting for work, interns, assistants etc.

Forget about the archiving, just delete the entire project and hope it never comes back! LOL Actually I agree, I had some issues as well and had to set up my config. specifically for a particular VTR and not just VTR.

aesnakes learn the difference between complaining and venting a frustration. These forums are here to get assistance through users of the same craft and to educate eachother. Understand that im not the one who looks like an ass here, if you think someone measures there success by their arrogance then you have just won the Nobel Prize. Take a lesson from Xavier and DG, the answer couldn’t of been more simple than the answer these two have given! Do me a favor, next time you see one of my post, simple just skip over it, there’s no need for ignorance to fill my threads.

aesnakes you have such a warm personality! I don’t think my comment warranted “yours” Coming from the Flame mentality you would hope it would be such a simple thing to try and figure out if don’t have the “aesnakes” experience using Nuke.

Is there not a more simplistic method to this madness? Adding a 3D card then run it through scanline render in which im not yet familiar with? Hard to believe that there isnt some sort of Transform node that allows you to simply rotate an image on its Y axis.

Cant tell you how many weird things I have run across and cant explain why. LOL Besides the typical shut down everything including the stones and restart, try creating a new user and seeing if that corrects the problem. Might have a corruption issue going on. If that doesnt work, throw the thing out the window…problem solved! Good luck.

I hear ya on the edges thing! As far as getting rid of the artifacts on the edges, well you can only do so much and more than likely all the tricks and tips in the book prob. wont get you a perfect edge. Just do what I do! If someone throws me some crap that wasnt shot correctly to pull a key, then I usually will explain to them what the challenges are and what the reality of the outcome will be. If your replacing the B/G completely then the challenges that may arise could be significant. I’ve been through this a thousand times and usually it works out pretty good. Utilize all the modules offered, experiment, and you will be surprised. Are there any “specific” tricks….Not really, just the experience and knowledge of dealing with that situation over and over again. Good Luck~

Honestly! I really couldn’t tell you that D5 footage sucks for keying. I have keyed pretty much anything and everything shot on every and all formats out there. I have keyed D5 footage that has sucked and D5 footage that was amazing, but I could say the same thing about any and all formats. Depending on the lighting, distance, lens, stops, focal point, ect.ect. I just finished a feature at 10bit and a music video shot RED, along with a new high end Honda commercial shot HD and I can tell you that the Honda commercial footage that was shot on green literally took one click of the Mstr. Keyer and I had an amazing matte, where as the feature and RED had a ton of spill and took alot of time due to someones inexperience! Do you think you have had better luck keying from Digi Beta compared to D5. Are we talking 4:2:2 compared to 4:4:4? If all you have been working with is SR then ya I hear ya on the D5. But then again i’ve keyed crap from VHS to RED and everything in between.

    Hey Ben,

I have run across that several times before. If im not mistaken you can go into your config.init and adjust your memory that way. You will have find a happy medium to where your box functions properly in both Batch and Action and the other modules. If you set your memory to high or to low you will feel it on process.

I know most new Flames were being shipped with that same maker Eizo, but not sure if the same specifications. We have one here in one of our bays, i’ll have to take a look at it.

I may be missing the whole point here. LOL If you alt click the container in the time line does that not give you back your tracks?

Pipe your action into an output node then pump that output node matte into another action with something else pumped back out to another output node. When you render you will see nothing but flickering of your orig. image underneath the second action. Client can see anything other than try to avoid a seizer.

When you refer to the old Inferno are you talking about Inferno on an SGI system? Also are you running currently on HP or IBM? I can only say that on the IBM I have had some serious issues that have yet to be resolved by Autodesk.
