Here are some releated bits from a search on the systems-message baords. Don’t know if they help.

I believe this a bug in Flame. For some odd reason, if the combustion
gmask is loaded first and used, it crashes. Try this:

1- Create any simple mask then load (add not replace) your combustion
    gmask.

2- Add your combustion gmask twice. When you add it the second time, it
    seems to work fine.

Let me know if that helps.

    Hi guys,

So what is your point of view, and maybe your experience with things like that. Im quite sure that at the end the amount of time spend on the project on Fusion will be a lot less then on ONYX based Flame or Inferno.

But what about a Flame on Linux? Cheap hardware, better performance. Clients happy.

It is still available for IRIX on Tezro.

It remains to be seen if this is the last release.

The way I understand it is, Project libraries will archive just like before, and you must save your setups seperately.

Project Archive will save your setup folders and your libraries as metadata to tape and keep the whole project together.

However, it sounds like you have some mixed rez video in your clips with history that won’t archive to your VTR format. Your best bet is to do a FILE archive, not a VTR. Otherwise you must commit the history in order to get all the resolutions to match.

On Smokes Guides… I assume it would be the same for FLame. There is a 4:3 to 16:9 dual grid layout. Go to your grid popup which is set on default, and look at the options.

I just did a 16×9 animorphic NTSC and needed the 4:3 safe areas for the edge crop.

So it should be already there.

Ona related note… has anyone upgraded from SGI to Linux recently? What was the cost of just the hardware upgrade, assuming that you already have a current software license, say with subscription also? Just round figures so I can get an estimate.

    Hello,
We are talking about upgrading our Smoke Tezro 4P V12 SGI box to the latest Linux system, “2x dual-core Opteron processor workstation” and were wondering if anyone had any experience as far as overall speed & performance between the two platforms?? The Tezro has been a solid box, but i wanted to know if anyone knew about any pros/cons about the new Linux machines. We also were hoping to get more storage options. Of course another question is whether anyone knows when Autodesk plans to upgrade the current workstation, if that’s coming soon we may wait for that.
    Thanks

Well, I too am on Tezro, but the new Linux boxes do have lots to offer. Mainly, if you want to stay current with new software versions in the near future then you need to switch to Linux. SGI is almost dead for Autodesk. Also, the new Linux boxes have better QT file suppport. The video hardware will soon be maximized (pixel shaders and such) when they rework the code away from SGI OpenGL.

Smoke has no camera projection. Sadly.

There must be a difference. Tezro is SGI, is your FlintHD on Linux? Do both have audio? 48k? What firnat were yoiu exporting in?

I would simply do it in 2 passes. If you have History on, then you’ll have your path and can easily tweek the original comp if needed.

Not to question your experience, but I have exported larger than 2gig QTs form Smoke before. Are you refering to exporting to the local SGI drive or via NFS?
