Got a good one: create a 2048×1556 ratio 1,33 frame, then export it. When you re-import it, it’s not the same ratio it becames 1,3162.

    Isn’t that wonderfull

Bugs… hehe I could go on forever:
    – Clip history is totally unstable and can give you massive dataloss if enabled. My tip (and Discreet’s) – don’t use clip history.
    – Batch is unstable and I’lve lost a lot of work from trying to use the timeline in batch and “EditFX” type of workflow. Don’t use EditFX!
-The distort node in batch “goes bananas” sometimes – probably related to batch overall instability.
-To often Flint crasches when I hit render in batch (always save before rendering).
    – Try to render a single frame in batch and you will end up with a black frame on the desktop. Render two frames and it’s fine.

That was just a few of them. I bet there are more bugs lurking out there…

I’m sorry my answer was not clear, youre a genious because by deleting the audio it’s working. I just wan’t to say that it happens sometimes when you have no audio on your clip
    My version is 9.2beta 3

Ok, I understand. Glad it helped you. But I’ve no idea why the audio causes this problem or why it sometimes doesn’t work for you even with no audio on the clip. I discouvered the “audio-thing” by pure luck. I’m just a user so I’m not aware of what’s going on under the hood. I keep my trust in that Disreet will fix all these annoying bugs.

Do you why the audio cause this.

And by the way do discreet check their upgrade before sell it.

    Thanks

Sorry the audio thing didn’t work for you, it did for me. It might be some other bug, flint is loaded with them.
What version are you using? I’m on 9.0.3, I think i read somwhere that there is a later version, but I’m not sure. Good luck.

Hi everybody. i’m french compositor on FLint 9.
I’ve got a lot of trouble with this new one
    the latest concern export mode
I’m in a pal partition, trying to export a clip. go to menu export clip then clic on export
and and… nothing the export menu throw me back to the desktop menu.
Try a lot of thing nothing work, change user, create new partition, reboot, nothing.
The only thing that works, is creating a color noise clip, then add it at the bottom of my clip, then the export work, if i cut my clip at the edit, then his name is color noise, the export work, but if i rename it it does not work

Don’t understand anything does anybody knows about that

Thanks and excuse me for my poor english as usual

Does the clip have audio? Delete it and it should work. Cheers.

Does anyone know where you can purchase the silver and grey balls that are used on set to capture the light sources for compositing 3D elements in post? Any help would be appreciated.

I don’t know if they can be purchased. We had a couple custom made by a guy in London. I think the price was pretty hefty.

I archive everything that isn’t easily redigitizable onto cheap removable hardrives over our network using the file archive option. It works very well for us.

Do you think that is safe enough? Or do you have a raid system?

    Hi-

I have been painting/rotoing several mattes for some composites. I have the mattes finished but I need to add motion blur to some of the edges. When the objects start to move faster they look choppy. The mattes have a slight blur on all the edges but not enough to add motion blur. I am working in smoke 653 and the footage is HDCAM. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    thanks
    matt

Inferno/flame has the possibility to apply motion blur to g-masks. I don’t know if smoke has it? If it hasn’t or you painted the mattes by hand and you want to add more blur, you can try the plug-in reelsmart motion blur from revisionfx.
(Shake and commotion has motion blur on spline masks, that won’t help you now, just thought I’d mention it.) Cheers.

    Hi everybody,
I was wondering about importing Boujou track in flame.
    how does it work
When i import the set up, I’ve got one group with two thousands axes, what the hell am i gonna do with that.

In fact the shot to track represent a men on a horse coming towards us in the desert. i want to replace portion of the ground (there are some tires marks).
Try billinear, track a matte, nothing realy works. So why not a 3D track.

Boujou track the camera mouvement, When i import the setting in my flame, if i attach my image to one axis, it follows the sky not the ground. In fact i dont want the camera mvmt, i want the ground mvt which moves faster than the sky

if i want him to track the ground how can i do.

I’m sure there are some kind of gurus out there to answer my question

Thanks, for reading this poor english note written by a french guy

    Hope i made myself clear,

In boujou you can choose what axis to export or not. If you don’t you will get all tracked points into flame and that will slow you down. So select the point you need… you will need a point close to the tire marks because it is very important that your axis will have the right place in z-space. If it doesn’t your patch won’t match the ground and it will appear to float and glide (follow the sky). Before exporting the track from boujou I usually adjust the scaling of all tracked data, if you don’t you will have to zoom in like hell in flame to get a good look of your axis in 3d-space. So when you have your axis of choice attach your image and position it. This can be a bit tricky because you will need to get the image in place with the exact position, rotation and scaling. Make sure your image has the same angle as the ground plane has to the tracked camera (if you leave a few axis you can see how the ground plane is positioned). Good luck.

    Hey guys,

I have looked around, but am having trouble finding topics close to this.

I am doing a music video and I want to sync properties of a clip to the amplitude of the music. Properties such as blend modes, and trasnsperency. I used to do this in after effects with relative ease, using motion math.

Is there a similar function, work around, or expression in Flame or Inferno that would acheive this.

BTW… I was thinking of animating a cross in AE using motion math and then tracking it in Flame to get data to then apply to my trasperency…. but this seems like it is just way too much work

    Cheers

There is a spark from speedsix (http://www.speedsix.com) called Aiffexctract that will generate keyframes from audio data. Cheers.

the per-layer setting (which I am pretty sure defaults to the clip’s dominance setting) makes it so when scales/repos are interpreted, it properly redraws the fields. For example, if you scale up an interlaced clip it won’t field properly if the layer setting is on ‘progressive’ for that layer, but if it’s on ‘interlaced’ the machine will figure out how to redraw the fields properly.

    I hope that explains it.

Do you know if there is a way to override action layers defaulting to the clip’s dominance (other than doing it manually in action EVERY time)? If I set my project to progressive I very very seldom want my layers to be interlaced. I find this new feature to be extremely irritating.

Hi everyboody. I’m working on the new flint version. She seems to be slower than the 8-3-1.

The new version does not recognize DTF archive. Got some trouble with display too.
I’ve been processing a clip iin batch, I see the frame on my desktop but when i go in play menu the clip is black.

Are there any bugs reported yet?

    Waiting for specialist advise

    John from France.

I’m on flint 9.0 on linux and the “black clip in batch” sounds very familiar. I’ve come across it when rendering one single frame in batch. As a workaround I render two frames instead and the mysterious black frame seems to disappear.
If there are any bugs reported yet? I do hope so. The bloody program is full of them. But I guess that isn’t too suprising.

ok, but one question, these VJ software aren’t to “mix” already made videos? If so I’ll use them for the actual concert but I would like to make the videos first, what tools could I use for that? … I didn’t know about that midisyth that is very cool thanks for the tip !!!!!! 😉

Yes, thats right. “VJ tools” are for the actual live situation. To be able to mix and improvise your video live the same way you do with audio. Kind of cool. But as you say it is not for creating your footage or graphics. There are better tools for that. I’d probably recommend After Effects. It has lots of plug-ins, it’s stable. Pretty solid playback with audio which is a must when doing stuff to music. You mentioned combustion as well. It’s is a nice piece of software but I’d probably not recommend it here. RAM playback sucks especially with audio. You don’t have as many plug-ins (they say you can use afx plugs but expect a lot of them to crasch). Afx integration with photoshop and illustrator is better. I wouldnt want to work on any longer pieces in Combustion, it’s better for retouching and comping a few seconds of material. If you are a mac guy you might want to take a look at Motion as well. I havent had any first hand experience of it. At first look I didn’t like the interface and workflow but thats just my personal opinion. But for creating something fast with lots of presets it might be the thing for you (with the risk of using the same presets and looking the same as everybody else). If you want to do more editing stuff I’d go for Final cut… if you have a mac that is.

Hi, I am new to these forums and I was looking for some help.

I have a music band and we are kind of making a musical where we are mixing different things like rock music, electronic music, theater, dance, mime and all sort of things and for this show I wanted to have video projections on the stage, so my question is what tool do you recommend? I’m talking about things made from scratch (purely digital), this things could be maybe some logo, ambient videos, some text effects and maybe some filming. I hope you can help me because all of this is really new to me …

    Thx a lot,

    G

PD: I’ve started using some combustion …

It seems that you are after something used by VJs. “Video Jockey” software with the possibilty to mix and trigger video and graphics live (w midisync).
I was looking for something like that a while ago and came across quite a lot. One was VJamPro, another Arkaos VJ. A lot of them seemed a bit toylike. I didn’t have time to try them all so I cant really recommend any one before the other. Google for VJ software, midi trigger and live video mixing and you’ll find more. Try the demos. Sorry I cant recommend any specific software. Maybe someone else have more experience? Cheers.
