After purchasing the following item http://ckcomputersystems.com/ckcs/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_32&products_id=72 with the optional enclosure, I can honestly say that I’m impressed.

The same composite running from a local HDD in BEST mode usually only ran at 3 to 4 fps. After moving the same composite to the FC Array, I get 10 to 13 fps. This is all prior to being cached. I can’t believe the difference. FC is in JBOD

The company was extremely friendly, in constant communication and even refunded my shipping when it took an extra 2 days to ship to me because of backordered enclosures. I didn’t ask for the refund, he just did it on his own.

    Loops, thanks for the contact.

How’d ya do a homegrown FC Array?

I’d be interested. Been looking around for the ability to build one from parts but haven’t had much luck.

Thanks loops for your insight, especially the humor.

I totally agree with you on the netviper comment. Dude, where the heck do ya get all this stuff!

If i pick it up, will let you know how it goes. I seem to take forever to make a decision on these things and try not to jump in until I know what’s up.

thanks to all and netviper, I guess sometimes you can’t say it enough.

Guess I’ll go with the FibreChannel. Anyone dealt with a config like this and is it recommended. Also, anyone dealt with this vendor. I’m not an expert in FiberChannel, mostly DAS so any help is appreciated.

Question 1: Are you using the Education or Commercial version for primary and render nodes?

Question 2: are you saving the workspace itself with UNC or similar mapped drive letter. I have found I sometimes save my workspace with system specific path and include all footage or sequences from UNC or mapped that works for render nodes.

I would suggest start small and work bigger to get the process down.

    Just my 2 cents.

Excellent Christian! Let us know how your using it. I found the Discreet training manual helpful (comes seperately).

While I don’t normally like to buy books (or open them for that matter), I recommend it.

    Take care,

Let us know more of what you think after working with it for a while. I’m a Mac and PC user and like to have apps that can run on both.

It doesn’t matter to me what platform, merely the application itself matters.

    Keep the info coming.

I originally tried C3 on Mac and switched to PC C4.

I agree with you and have no intention of going to Mac for C.

Just thought I’d let other know.

I know someone already said it but I can’t help but say that I can’t stand the inability to easily resize viewports or work areas. It’s probably one of the most standard features in apps, get with it Autodesk!

Other than that, really love C

After you place your AREA for the emitter, expand the Transport node where you will see “sparkles” and “llines” with “lines” selected” go to the EMITTER options and deselect “AT POINTS”.

Let me know if this does it for you.

I hate the ORANGE splash on load with the C4 for Win patch. Bring back the GREY!

I have C4 for Win and the manual that came with it says for Win or Mac, so, I think it is just a matter of time (which is the essence of your question). I was using C3 on my Mac and loved it but ended up switching to Win because of speed issues.

    good luck,

    Well, thanks for the reply.

After messing with it for 3 days, I basically just loaded XP 64bit and re-installed. All was resolved.

    Thanks again for your input.

    I capture via Firewire.

I also enjoy small personal projects which is why a purchase might be a better option for me. Sometimes, I just get the urge to try something.

I setup a green screen room in our basement and am always trying small personal projects. It’s also fun with my 4 year old son (he loves it when he’s flying around on the TV). Kind of a way to turn my passion into something we both can do.

I pretty much get the idea that I should:

    1. Get a better camera with less compression (more $ usually means better)
    2. Go with the dvMatte plugin to also help with my keying.
