    Great post Darren!
What you have just described is my workplace as well.
It seems that work ethic and politics seems to be a universal thing – no matter where you work.

Could you post some of the tuts you mentioned which are free on the web.

You mentioned you are an intermediate compositor. How long does it take to get to your level? I realise its an individual thing and talent but roughly how long does it take to get to an intermediate level then perhaps Senior Compositor overlooking a team of compositors?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi all,
I’ve been hanging out for something like this to crop up!!!
I have a heap of questions which I will post once I compile the lot.
I come from a graphics programming background and tinkered with Fusion a little and “fell in love.” So much so that I now want to change my career path to compositing for feature films – sfx, etc.

    Mike,
to add to your list, understanding production pipelines and where a compositor sits in the whole production would be great to. As well as who provides input to the compositor and where does the output of a compositor go?
I would like to learn the scripting side of compositing.
Is this what a TD does?

I enjoy viewing the 2nd DVD of most movies just to get a glimpse of how they did certain shots/sfx. In fact if anyone has some good feedback on movies they would like to share which contain sfx breakdowns, would be beneficial for all.

I guess at the end of all this:
    – what to put in your reel?
    – how to get a job?
    – what are the ranges in salary (permanent/contract – hourly rate)?

Thanks again, and really looking forward to future developments here.
    😉
