JoshuaParticipant
Hello Don.
Are these pieces still available? (Octane, Stone arrays, Fiber card)
Could you please forward me some details. Thanks
JoshuaParticipantCheck your software manual, I think you can replace a small number of non licensed drives in an array & rebuild it.
Beyond that. you may well be screwed. Are you running SCSI or FC drives in your stone

JoshuaParticipantFirstly congratulations on your purchase.
Check with Autdoesk & request a license transfer. If this old hardware was not used as part of an upgrade to a newer Linux based system the transfer maybe would allow you to pay for system upgrades or cross-grades to Flame in the future.
I think you will find the system will be very powerful and more than usable, this was serious iron in it’s day & IRIX was a nice stable platform. It’s not the dollar value of the system that’s important but it’s usability, stability and what is will offer to your workflow. I am not sure what versions of Inferno are supported but do some research on Burn and running Burn nodes to speed up your system renders if you think that they need improvement. This was Autodesks answer to adding horsepower to the SGI heavy iron when they started porting their systems products platform across to Linux. On layer heavy comps you will find that the system will hold it’s own.
I am sure that there are a few SGI/IRIX experts still on here that may be able to offer advice to you regarding getting the system up and running. Do a HINV on the system & see what ram is installed in your tower, with many of these systems being parted you might find that you could pick up addition ram to max out your system quite cheap.
Check and see what sparks are installed on your system it may have Monster 5D sparks or GenArts Sapphires. If not check out the GenArts website for their plugins for Inferno if you are wanting to add some extra bang for your buck.

JoshuaParticipantEbay…. There are usually older systems for sale.
There is a 2009 Ver of Flint on IBM hardware up at present with burn & sparks.
Contact Autodesk for the cost & logistics of the transfer of licence into your name from the previous owners.

JoshuaParticipantThe project was on PAL SD, So it was not larger than 1000 pixels.
I am curious if it may be an issue with Vista vs XP? I don’t get the same problem on C4 on XP.

JoshuaParticipantG’day, Yes I have checked that I have the correct path. I even cut & paste the file path from the combustion window & pasted that into explorer to double check & got an error message.
Search showed nothing. I also created 2 new folders in the directory. These show in Combustion but not to Vista.
I have managed a work around to move the files using the media explorer in Sony Vegas Pro. I had to created a new folder on my desktop & dragged the files out of the C4 directory into the desktop folder. Vegas could also see all of the files & the newly created folders.
Very Odd. I would be curious if this is a bug with C4 running on Vista?

JoshuaParticipantThanks for the tip on the Alt key.
Ok I have gone to the folder properties & the “Show hidden files an folders” is selected & still no files are showing in the Combustion 4 folder. I created a folder via the open window command & the folder that I created shows, but still no Mov, Tiff or Targa Sequences are there.
Any other suggestions?

JoshuaParticipantWas the HD I/O Limitation due to the DM options that were out there for this machine or a disk speed issue?
JoshuaParticipantThis might help, The Autodesk web site still showing quiet a bit of old C4 Stuff. But this link http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=10178588 will point you in the direction of the 2008 trial version.
I have noticed that Autodesk have now watermarked the viewport with an X that renders to output. (I have not installed the demo for that very reason) Gone it seems are the days that you could play while you waited for your upgrade to arrive in the post & enter your serial number etc…….. without having to reinstall or overwrite the demo.

JoshuaParticipantAt the Autodesk meeting at DMF in Sydney a few weeks back there was a “technology demo” of Combustion 2008. Most notable is the colour warper running inside the 2008 version. It’s alive for another release. Don’t fly the flag at half mast just yet!
