    Hey Light,

Seen you’ve been quite active on the forum .. Nice to see keen people 🙂
And thanks to guys like Loops & many more, we can learn more … and pass on the knowledge !

So to reply to your last post, in my day job I work with 2 other designers, but on my personal projects where I develop my skills, it’s all on my own really. Last year I setup to organise a day of filming on a blue screen in a friend’s house, borrowing stage lights from gigging friends, a canon XL1 from another, and I filmed a few friends including a young stripper :)) that was good !

My aim was to get footage to produce composites i had in mind, and to pitch them to compagnies to get a job in the industry. Which I did, although not in the creative sector I would like (I do corporate stuff) but still in multimedia, where I’m learning essential stuff really.

If you want to see what I did, there are a few videos and my showreel on my website http://www.bunel.tk including a naughty one 🙂

As to how I got freelance work, I worked for people I knew for nothing or little money, spread the word out that I was efficient, creative and reliable, and I was everyday on websites like http://www.mandy.com, where they list job offers worldwide – seek specific sites in Canada.

Now that I got the job, I am going to spend this year developing my compositing / vfx skills, and will go hunting for projects / new job in 2007.

    Preparation !

See you later mate, enjoy Combustion, it’s pretty good hey ?

    Hey Light,

What’s your goal then ? Is it boosting your portfolio to look for another job, is it pure creative endeavour ?

Besides, you mention not being a generalist, so what is your main area of focus in 3d ?

Myself I am trying to develop my skills and showreel, am working on corporate animations at mo, but want to evolve towards music videos, ads, etc …
I did experiment filming models on a low budget and have been playing around with footage since – personal projects outside work are one of the ways, what do you think ?

    See you later mate 🙂

    Hi Light,

I would like to highlight (haha:) these guys work:

    http://www.dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=ctk

They sell a Blue screen footage + tutorials package based on a Kung-Fu shoot.

It seems good quality and informative, maybe what you’re after.

I know how you may feel, I am also in my early days of compositing & VFX and find that only putting personal projects & finding unpaid freelance projects have helped raise my skills and profile. Gotta be done !

    Good luck !

The more experienced compositors here would give you fuller advice, but I’d go for a combination of techniques, multiples passes, etc …
Watching these guys’ shots breakdown reel may inspire you very much:

    Good luck 🙂
