Samuel ConlogueParticipant
Turns out the person who was rendering the render time tests was not only pulling files off the network, but rendering to it as well.
Once we copied the files locally and rendered locally, the render flew.
Next time we will just ask the person running the test to be more aware.
Samuel ConlogueParticipantAccording to the manual you can do a bit of degraining in the FileIn Node(page119 of the PDF manual):
Blend
Averages neighboring frames together to create in-between frames that are a
combination of both to soften the strobing effect that can result from slow motion
effects. If the retimeMode parameter has been set to Blend, three additional
parameters appear underneath…..
• range: Controls how many frames are blended together to create the final result. For
example, if you want to extend a source clip of 20 frames to 40 frames, each source
frame is applied to two output frames. With a range of 2, it is applied in four output
frames, resulting in more blending. If you apply only this value with no other
modifications, Shake inserts repetitions of neighboring frames to help you with
degraining……Samuel ConlogueParticipantSorry, I just glanced at your post not really getting into all the details. Sounds like nrgy and Aruna have helped you through it though.
Samuel ConlogueParticipantWhen you have more than one write node in a script you can set a render order so that that write node 1 renders before write node 2.
This way when you are done with the whole comp the script will render in order.
The Gnomon Nuke DVD’s touch on this a bit.

It is a great school IF you are willing to push yourself. SCAD accepts anyone who can afford it. They do not require a portfolio, so needless to say there alot of rich people with no talent.
The ones that truly get the most out of it are those with a passion for what they do. If you work hard and push yourself beyond your limits and meet with professors outside of class, you will have have excellent work to show for it.
They have all the latest software, professors who have worked in the industry (one of which worked on Tron), and one of the biggest renderfarms on the east coast.
The school has alot of inner-office politics and the higher-ups are extremely interested in how the school looks in the eyes of the public.
If you can live and let live and let all of this not affect you, then it is a great school.
Samuel ConlogueParticipantThe black magic codec only causes minor noise on the left side in my case. This usually gets cropped out when viewed on a TV or plasma. The only time it becomes a huge problem is when we try to do global color correction or color timing. Any kind of blur effects to CC washed the green and pink noise back in.

Samuel ConlogueParticipantAt the company I work for we have ran into that problem as well. Half of us are working on Intel MACs and they seem to be the only ones running into that problem.
It does have to do with the codec. If you do not have the option to render from a non-Intel MAC, try rendering out your back-plate or elements as sequential image sequences.
