Well, it’s time to get used to the progressive world.:)

The perceived motion at 25fps will never be as smooth as 50i.

Your new workflow is just Resize the 720p/1080p material and done. You can export this to tape. Don’t worry about interlacing, the tape machine will record your stuff as it is.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately it doesn’t give the result I need. Will find some other way…

If you’re afraid, then don’t use it.

Actually in Flint when you import a seq with alpha, they show on the desktop separately and you have to handle the alpha channel as an individual seq. From this point you’re right.
As far as I know the Nuke guys can separate the alpha with one click as well.
Since the matte is separated in the app by nature, it’s easy to work with it (combine, find edge etc.).

The highlights are usually in separate passes and I comp them in with alpha turned off. Of course the blending mode is changed from “Blend” to something else. In general there is no premult/unpremult issue at highlights.

    Hi,

Alpha is a BW image, why would I waste the storage with RGB alphas?
When I import 10 render passes why would I want import 10 alphas separetely?

I work on Flint, unpremultiplying an image is just one click and there is no pain.:)

I have no idea how the AE guys deal with this, but would be surprised if not easily.

Just save the Action and load it in Batch with node setup selected.
If you would like to use a layer in batch tree, select it and press ctrl+ADD, the layer will be visible in the batch tree.

    Hope it’s clear.

in reply to: how to use LUTs? #218143

I had a little time to read the manual and go through the preferences.
Unfortunately I can’t attach any pictures and I can’t show you the preferences I see, I simply didn’t find the LUT settings in the Preferences. We have 2009 sp2.
If you’re in the player and push the View button, I can see the dummy space (greyed out) form viewing LUTs, but no more.

I found this on p. 719 in the manual :

“Depending on whether you are processing your clips with the LUTs or just
using them for viewing purposes, you perform one or more of the following
    steps.

    Step:
    1. Import a 1D LUT created in an out-
    side application.

    2. Process clips with 1D LUTs on im-
    port or export.

    3. Process clips with 1D LUTs from the
LUT Editor accessed from the Desktop
    or in Batch.”

I think this means that Flint supports processing LUTs only.
Did I mention that I hate the manual, I always have to read between the lines if I’m looking for a feature that doesn’t exist. Why can’t it be put clearly on the paper, “hey Flint doesn’t support viewing LUTs”.

    Thanks for the answers.

Flint supports LUTs. There is a LUT node in Batch and works perfectly, I can apply LUT at importing etc., but these are processing LUTs.
Now I retouch log pictures and at the end I always check the result with processing LUT. But this just takes too long and doesn’t feel very professional.:)

How do you usually do this?

    @jayrandall
: thanks, I will check it out on Flint, we have 2009 ext. something, maybe 2

It isn’t easy to find an assistant job in LA (the capitol of film making). So what’s wrong with throwing my savings at the problem. I’m a great candidate for this type of position and don’t want to wait years to find it. I’m willing to show my dedication by paying for it. Does this make me a bad person? Or stupid based on your opinion. I’m just trying to make my dreams happen buddy.

I’m really sorry about being too provocative and not being diplomatic at all. I focused on the message so much and I simply forgot the style. 🙂
    Sorry again.

It’s good to see that you’re really dedicated. In my opinion it’s the most important at the beginning.

I really don’t want to offend you and I wish you to find a flame mentor, but your offer is nonsense. If I didn’t live on the other side of the world, I would take your money and keep my opinion, but you’re lucky. 🙂

Let’s imagine, we can agree. I give you lessions for 3000USD for 3, no rather for 6 months, because I’m generous. Don’t forget, that you can practice only in the nighttime and weekends, because flames are used in the day. At the end of my day I show you what to practice and leave you alone with the machine, because I need to sleep. Sometimes I stay a little longer, because you payed me and I would like to show you my helpfulness. Whenever I work alone (no clients in the room), you can come in and see how I solve certain problems.

After 6 months you could do most of the tracking/keying/rotoing tasks. Maybe you have some basic experience with 3d comping and other advanced techniques. But you’re definitely not ready to work with clients and solve complex problems alone! Not to mention your vision, which can’t be “force trained”.

After 6 months our deal is over. My company doesn’t need any assistant, so we can’t hire you. You have some skills, but believe me, you won’t find any flame job, because you have no working experience. So you’ve spent long nights and 3000USD for learning something useless.

BUT if my company needs flame assistants, I would hire you as a trainee for free. If you are a good workforce, it can easily turn to an assistant position. You will have to do all the repetitive/technical tasks, but you will learn a lot and you will have WORKING EXPERIENCE!

Hope this will help you to save 3000USD.:) Anyway is it really so hard to find a trainee position in L.A.? In the capital of filmmaking?

You may learn the technical aspects of the software within few months, but the real and valuable working knowledge comes only with experience.

I think you had better to find a mentor and work for him as a Flame assistant/Flint op for longer time.

I like it. Maybe some of the others will consider it a slightly long, but I didn’t mind it.

Use only 2 point of the 4 with the normal tracker. (you can load the points separately in the normal tracker) This is the simplest way.

Or you can use the Edit offsets option, I’m not in front of the machine, but see this one in the manual at 4 point tracking.
