shannones ridersParticipantI see. That’s easy: do the tracking in Action, copy the x and y position channels and paste them to the spark’s xy position channel. You can manipulate these channels later via Curve Functions Toolbox, no expression needed.

But you have a bunch of tool to change your animation channels.
They’re in a box called Curve Functions Box in the manual and it is set to “Reverse” by default. You can find it on the right side of the animation channels.shannones ridersParticipantThis one is not infinite in mathematical mean, but works:
Add a dummy layer and add the layer you want to repeat to this layer as a texture. Set the texture parameters to “repeat” and scale down the axis above the texture.
I always rasterize vectorized images in PS first, create an alpha and save as 32 bit tga. Maybe the others can give you a better workflow.
Gmaks can be created in some roto softwares, like Silhouette from sfx or some tool from imagineer.

You can’t link spark’s track to an other track in Action node for example. But you can copy it and most of the time it helps.:)

There is no way to link sparks, they simply don’t appear in the batch channel editor. You can only copy the channels or simply duplicate the node when you’ve finished with the settings.

I would rather buy a Syntheyes for 400 USD, some Spark package. We do commercials here and we can live without the Modular Keyer. OK, I have to admit that last time I wanted to extrude a Geom from Gmask, but this feature is only avaliable in Flame… 🙂
If you compare the hardwares, they are the same, so the speed is the same. Now why would you buy Flame for commercials?

Two years ago I asked the same question from an Autodesk Authorised trainer: what’s the difference between Flint and Smoke?
He answered me that Smoke is a very good workhorse if you have a small facility and want to solve wide range of problems. It’s like a Swiss Army knife. That’s why he always advised to start-up companies to buy Smoke. But hey, you have several machines…
Since then Flint inherited much better editing capabilities from Smoke. What’s more you know Flint much better, I wouldn’t hesitate…

ps: when we bought our Flints (3 years ago) they were cheaper with Smoke installed on the same machine than standalone, but we never touched Smoke 🙂

I think it’s possible to work really fast when you’re organised and you have a good overview on the workflow. The ‘brute force’ way of working won’t work on Flame either, you still have to think.
On Flame the trial and error phase of the work can be pretty short, because you see the results immediately.
OK, processing spark took 2 minutes. But what if you need 10 elements for a shot made by sparks? You process them separetely and you’ve them on the desktop within an hour. Same in Batch, you can cache the nodes you don’t want to change any more.

I don’t completely agree with him, but it’s an interesting comparision and might enlight the differences better.

shannones ridersParticipantActually I really don’t understand why isn’t hardware upgrade included in subscription fee. The post houses could plan their expenses much easier and we wouldn’t blame Autodesk for the slow hardwares…

Forget the PC hacks, they won’t work…
