The darker edges sounds like the render sequence might not be premutiply, but even then i doubt that u can recreate the comp as in combustion without having to play around with the matte and maybe some glow.

The cliplist option is really cool, but often i would prefer to have seperate branches for each clip, but for the most part the cliplist seems to me to be the way to go. 😀

no thats only for the rich boys in the iff country club, combustion is a strange application in that its mostly defined by what discreet features are kept out of it rather then in it. “Sometimes i think u want to lose” type situation. u can fake strokes with animated mask, but its only for simple effects, for more complex things i dont recommend it.

Discreet but some company pride into combustion as well as iff.

Ok, turn on supersampling in your composite settings and make your preview to best and cache as many frames as your ram allows and see how it looks, if that dont do it u could try apply a filter like median or blur but then of course loose some of that gorgeous detail.

Oohh yeah …a new API. That’s my number 1 wish from santa. I can’t stand windows type API’s for graphics software and it’s not a “i hate bill gates” thing either, i just want more attention to detail and more smoothness ….it can never get smooth enough!!
    Discreet use the POSIX API!!

I dont quite get your question, but here goes …to colour correction without alpha you simply switch from “color+alpha” to “color” in the footage controls. The premultiply is all about what colour value you want the software to multiply the alpha channel by before the alpha is applied. this is set to black by default and blacks rgb value is 0,0,0 so it goes 0*x=x. If you change it to white then all the alpha pixels would be multiplied by 255, which would effectivly take all the transparency out of the image since it would turn all the alpha pixels to white (255,255,255) and a white alpha is a 100% opaque value.
…..(i really hope i am right about this …premultiplying has never been my strongest subject)

No i am afraid not, it is a very handy tool i agree, but i am not sure how it would fit in combustion’s data handling, basically the schematic view is a visual representation of the data handling in combustion, so if u can find a way to make it work in the schematic then we might see it in the future.

Yes, but it’s an old rumor …my man on the inside told me that Softimage attitude is that they port XSI to any realistic platform …is the mac a realistic platform yet …dont think so …i think as soon as we start seen the pro 3d cards on Mac OSX then u will see Softimage follow and alot of other apps as well. But Apple have always had big problems with third party development and nothing suggest that their politics have radically changed.

BTW if somebody from Discreet should see this thread, this is an excellent example of why you should include the full feature set of your ffi paint tool into combustion. I would be very surprised if such a move would hurt your ffi sales, in fact if you made them all compatible i am sure it would boost sales across the product line.
    Just my 2 cents.

For very basic draw on effects that dont involve to complex shapes, u could use particles, once the shapes get too complex i would not recommend this technique. Plugins ….I am sure you could find quite a few AE plugins for this effect …the only one i can think of is the Cult plugins, but they have been bundle with AE for last 2 version so i am not sure if they are aviable as a plugin set anymore.
Let me know if u wanna know more on the particle technique.
