The IonParticipant
I totally agree with Ross. Combustion is a great application, I don’t know you guys but I think is quite hard to do motion graphics with a node tree ap like Toxik. Toxik is wonderfull in shot basis compositing but not so user freindly when it comes to do motion graphics.
The problem is that with Combustion gone there is not much alternatives besides AE(I still love the Autodesk interface so I won’t move there).
In reference to the Rohit comments before… I know we can keep using Combustion for a while but, correct me if I am wrong, with new operating systems coming up in the future the application will become more and more unstable since, I guess, they won’t release support for C*.
Talking about Toxik, I think stills lacks of a good paint and particles like C*. Hope they can fix that in the future.
CheersThe IonParticipantit may help…
1- Go to Application/Combustion
2- Go to Data directory
3- Backup the Quicktimecodecs.txt file
4- Open the Quicktimecodecs.txt file and remove the [v210] line
5- Save your file
6- Start Combustion and playback your Apple uncompressed 10-bit clipThe IonParticipantHi Nanuk,
Thanks a lot for your help, I will try that, and yes!… I am switching for Combustion to Toxic.
Cheers!!
The IonParticipantHi Sebastien,
Thanks a lot for your tips!, really appreciate!, I guess you are right, in fact it’s easy to catch all the tools, need to change chip!!, for paint I was using Combustion and I though it’s great, I can’t miss anything in the operator. When you said “can’t have the best of the both worlds” I was a bite confused cos I don’t know what you can do in the paint operator in Toxic that can’t be done in Combustion (at this moment in time of course).
Anyway Thanks again!!The IonParticipantHi Sebastien,

Anyway Thanks again!!The IonParticipantThanks a lot for your help!!, I solved the gmask problem!, I have still a few doubts about the paint tool:
As you said, I used the Blend & Comp tool: footage as background, Paint tool as foreground set the in 1, out 1, freeze (in the raster layer of the paint tool)…ok, nice, works … If I want to do changes to the strokes after I created them, like… let’s say… I want to set the duration of a stroke from frame 3 to frame 20 only?, or… I want to change its blend mode(with the rest of the composition and NOT the way they blend among the different raster layers),… etc, I can not do it within the Paint tool but finding a way to do it outside the paint tool, like animating the opacity of the foreground in the “Blend & comp”, changing the blend mode, etc,… am I right?
Thanks!!!The IonParticipantQuicktime movie
codec is “Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2”
frame size 1920×1080
data rate 132 MB/s
fps 25
Pixel Aspect squareI can’t open it in Combustion, If I reconvert the file using FCP as “Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2” then is ok. In Shake, or even Nuke, I can open the 10 bit.
What is even more weird is that if I export the “Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2” Quicktime movie as “none” compression (I keep the rest parameters untouch) then I can open it but it has a shift in color, it’s a bite bluish!.I don’t get it!!.
The IonParticipantI got a Quicktime movie Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 HD 1920 X 1080 (1888×1062) Millions. The file was created from a HDCAM tape.
I tried to import the clip in Combustion but all I see is a noisy signal with no image. If I import it in Shake is ok.
And regarding the stability, I agree vizije, I tried Combustion in thousand of different computers and configurations and it’s always the same even you buy the most expensive mac or pc.

The IonParticipantI would like to know whether is possible to import Uncompressed 10 bits HD files into Combustion?, Thanks
