TimorParticipant
i think this really is more of a budget question…
if you have the money go for the fibre-channel (you can also use SATA to FC which is what we will be using in the near feature). we do a lot of work in HD so we need at least 150 MB/sec and more.
if you only comp in SD i don´t really see the need for a solution like that. you could also buy 2-3 SATA raptors as raid 0 and you will get enough bandwith for 3-4 SD streams..for premiere fast harddrives makes sense, for 3d work you can even work via a slow network.
textures don´t need high troughput.hope this helps
timorTimorParticipanthaven´t seen the pianist myself but i can guess what you saw:
after a matte painting is done it is often used as a projection map.
it´s a bit tricky to explain with my limited english knowledge…you recreate whats in the painting as rough 3d geometry (buildings, rocks, etc) in a 3d program such as maya, xsi or 3dsmax and use the painting as a map projected from a virtual camera. you can now use a second virtual camera to move in this scene.
try a search on “camera mapping”. amazing technique, used in almost every hollywood movie.
hope this helps,

TimorParticipanttry this:

or use the sapphire plugins “AE_trails” (very expensive plugins!)
hope this helps,timor

TimorParticipantif you have space problems you should consider using png sequences.
if you have speed problems you best use tgas.combustion is the fastest with tgas (my experience and of many others).
i often use png´s when working with HD. it is slower to load then tga´s but very very small. it´s also lossless and can hold alpha (only 1 though).
in heavy comps with many layers i switch to tga´s.hope this helps…

TimorParticipanti would suggest you check out clipster:
http://www.dvs.de/english/products/i just saw it in action with 2 HD 10bit streams both with color correction in realtime. it´s capable of 4k RGB uncompressed.
very impressive and at a reasonable price (so they said 😉

TimorParticipanti have to agree what softer an vympel said.
just wanted to add that what you after is called “corner pinning”
consult the help for this topic…in the layer options there is a button called “4 corner”. when you enable it you can grab every corner of your footage and also track it.
this of course makes only sense with “real” footage, not a rendered 3d sequence.
hope this helps.

TimorParticipantTimorParticipantwhat version of DF are you using?
in DF5 you can import XSI or lighwave native files straight into the camera in 3D space.
it´s even better in DF5 than in c* because you can use the 3D geometry to immediately check wether it fits or not.you need an extra point cloud node to see the tracking points which is nessesary to align everything….
it really works great (i use pftrack but should work the same).
hope this helps

TimorParticipantthis is the same way i went.
i would never rely only on blending modes with fire. keying with a very soft edge and a good overlay mode “add” “screen” or “overlay” should do it.
cheers

TimorParticipantno problem here.
quicktime 6.5 installed.
timor
TimorParticipantsorry if i misunderstood your problem:
i don´t quite get why you are tracking a scene which only needs 2d tracking in a package like boujou?
if you have 16mm or an hd equivalent it should track fine in c* even with the heavy grain in it. if not use a degrain-op while tracking and remove it later. you just need to track the 2d position with a 2 point tracker (position, scale, rotation).
if you are talking about a 3d object you want to insert it would make sense to track it in boujou.
hope i got you right.
cheers

TimorParticipanti live in berlin so i name just a few:
there are defininately more around but these are the biggest (and coolest) around…

TimorParticipantjust to make sure: the 5.2 driver is not yet released, you probably have DeckLink 5.1.2 installed… ?
have you checked your desktop monitor settings to see that you have the decklink set to ntsc and 29 hertz?
you should then have the videomonitor acting as a third computer screen.
if you have pal selected you might encounter a problem with your ntsc- monitor.
hope this helps

TimorParticipantif i got you right:
just split the layer that was in the bg the moment it is not covert by the other spaceship.
move the second part of your animation on top of the foregorund spaceship. it will now cover the foreground spaceship…voila, your done!
hope this helps.

TimorParticipanthi Francisco,
an idea would be to use photoshop cs2 with batch to convert the raw to hdri. ps should be able to preserve all infos in the file.
havn´t tried it though.hope this helps,
