HI,
as usual it all depends. This time, the decision would definitly be influenced by such details as ” is the background going to be progressive or interlaced?” Or does this depend on the foreground again. In that case it would be a matter of what it is used for… technically I would probably go for the progressive format…

Uwe Wiesemannuwe_wiesemannParticipantI suppose you deleted that pesky host.ini file ? For me that helps a lot.

Uwe Wiesemannuwe_wiesemannParticipantHallo,
try the discreet colorcorrector. Using the histogram by numbers you should be able to get your result quickly. For examle set the low value /black to 128 and the high/white to 129 or so…..

uwe_wiesemannParticipantHi.
… looks like these questions are popping up all the time now….
Well, I’d start with AfterEffects and a card for capturing/playing out to DigitalBetacam (like Blackmagic). For Editing I’d go with FinalCutPro. For tasks like touching-up and keying/colorcorrecting I’d get Combustion. Only when you are planning to work in shifts, being paid by the hour/shift and have the client/director sitting next to you all the time I’d definitely consider Flint, Flame or even inferno, depending on the work you do.Regards

January 12, 2006 at 11:47 am in reply to: To Track or to apply in a 3d package as a Texture? #211565uwe_wiesemannParticipantHI all,
I would probably shoot the footage on film, making sure I get as little grain as possible, transfer that to digibeta and prepare the shots. This would include the keying and colorcorrecting. I’d key them either on black and export them with the alphachannel (premultiplied) or key them onto the average bg-color you need later.
Those prepped shots I’d put onto the cubes/objects within tha 3d-package.
Just in case you have to change around something later you can render a pass as rpf, including object-, render-node and/or material-IDs. This way you can acces the textures in Combustion for further treatment.I would definitely not try the tracking. You dont need to. You can even get the cameramove from the rpfs.
Best regards, let us know, how you decided.

uwe_wiesemannParticipantQuote:Also keep in mind the amount of hardware and “stand alone” products you will need to buy to match the versitility of the flames.Hi. If you stay in SD, the extra hardware is almost nothing. An external firewire/usb2-disk is already fast enough for recording and playout, when using a cheap (but good) Blackmagic-Decklink card. For extra security you can get a raid. The capturing/playout-tool comes with the card.
I am still amazed that it works so good.
And… no I dont work for them…regards

uwe_wiesemannParticipantHi,
sorry for replying so late.
Actually, I have not tried it myself yet. I just knew the link and had a short contact to Oliver Hotz.
Just try an actionfile and also an exported raw-file.
Let us know what happenedUwe
uwe_wiesemannParticipantHi,
I suppose everybody will say that its a very difficult question.
I noticed, that a lot of the jobs I am working on lately dont really require a flame (ok, I have a flint, but its is similar….). Hey could be done using desktop-systems, like AE, Combustion, Motion and shake. Also, because there was no client breathing into my neck… If most of your (companys) income is made with the flame charged to the client by the hour, th decision can alost be made with a calculator….
In terms of workflow, hopping between desktop-applications is sometimes a drag, though. The FFI system is kind of a one-stop in comparison.best regards

uwe_wiesemannParticipantHI,
there wass a tutorial for the AfterEffects plugin “Trapcode Particular” by Belief.
It was very interesting. Maybe you can find it.

uwe_wiesemannParticipantHi, that’s not a bad amount of money. you should be able to get something for it.
What about moving the 4 AfterEffects seats to windows as well and stick with windows?
I dont like windows too much myself but since you already have the other apps plus your IT ignoring the apples….
regardsuwe_wiesemannParticipantuwe_wiesemannParticipantHI.
I’d export the clip as Quicktime Animation with audio, move it to a mac and create the DVD with iDVD.
regards.
Uwe Wiesemannuwe_wiesemannParticipantHi.
Well, I think for such a cheap app it is pretty good. There could be some more parameters in its controls though. But the one in Shake is not much better, one seems to have to work on it a lot to get a good result, whereas in Motion I was surprised how good it sometimes looked with its autometic settings.
I am talking about Motion 1 here, btw.

Uwe Wiesemannuwe_wiesemannParticipantHi,
I installed Samba (get it from http://www.samba.org ) on IRIX, using SWAT to configure it and then just connect with smb://[email protected] . Pretty fast and stable.
I did it the other way, too. Using Sharity (which lets you connect to 2 servers for free) on the SGI, I can get files from our 3d-Renderserver (Win2K) without moving my hand more than getting them from the internal library.regards
Uwe Wiesemannuwe_wiesemannParticipantHi, I have switched to smb for some time now because nfs was too slow. THere was a topic with smb after upgrading may Macs to Tiger, though, it had been covered here, I believe. THe passwords are being sent encrypted since Tiger, and maybe that is causing your nfs to fail, too.
Just a quick thought….
