The Reel should be named what ever you EDL name is. And you source clip should be in this reel or it will not work. Not just in the same library but also in the same reel.

Ok here it is. Sorry for all the other…

    Load your EDL

    Click Assemble

Find the libary where it assemble your edit (It will be all black clips)

Save your Source clip inside the reel the assemble created (It has to be inside the reel to work.)

Go back to EDL and Assemble again this time it should make your EDL work.

There hehe that should do it right.

Ok I am using Flint not Flame, but I am sure they are the same on this. Here is what I have

EDL with the source clip from the EDL on my desktop.

In the EDL under each clip in YELLOW is reads “FROM CLIP NAME:OPEN” Where OPEN is the name of my source slip. It says that all of my clips are captured. Make sure that the YELLOW text on your EDL has the same name as your source clip or I do not think it will work. Let me if this does not work for you and I will look into more.

Do you have a deck to lay off to? If so make sure the time codes match and lay off the clip to tape. Then pull it back in with the EDL. If its Digibeta you should not losse to much quality on the clip. If not there might be another way… let me check it first and write back after I do it…

Maybe I am not understanding what you are asking but, can’t you just render them out and use them as a matte? I will try this but maybe I am way off on what you are wanting to know.

You know it is really hard to compare (I don’t know if you already covered this I hope that you did not) Smoke/Fire or FFI to Combution or most of the other NLE or compoiting apps out there. First you have a true 3d workspace. In most desktop (Combustion/Shake/after effects) its a fake 3d workspace(as far as I can tell). Second you have clip management. All of the Discreet products (minus Combustion/Toxik) use disk arrays so all of your clip play back (once imported) is in real time. That is huge all by its self. But the plus for, and why you see so many of them in use, Desktop apps is price point. A Smoke/Flint on Linux with about 9 hours of strage will run in the neighborhood of 150K to 175K (Thats the price of a nice home where I live) Where as most of your desktop apps run from $300 to no more than $10,000. (plus if you are just learning you can download demos of most desktop apps) But once you got on a FFI/SF system you never want to leave.

DIY is a great way to start out. I started as a flame artist over 10 years ago and its very hard starting out finding good footage to work with. If you have the free time you could always roto out stuff. That would also add to your resume for the shot. Like if you took in some footage from a movie and removed the main actor and placed them into a shot from another film. That would be cool. Also if you guys are reallyi n need of some green screen shots, just for testing, I might be able to send you some. Shoot me an e-mail and we can work somthing out.
