nikolaParticipantVOODOO wrote:Once again the ole banding issue. Is there any tricks to creating a grad without getting the banding. The aliasing feature in Action doesnt get rid of it. Was in a HD project and needed a simple grad. Ended up having to do it in Photoshop. Any suggestions.
tinder is good, another trick is to add some grain
nikolaParticipantAre you using any Tinder or Furnace plugins ??? – we have the same problem – but mostly if we use Tinder or Furnace – no problem with saphire or other plugins
nikolaParticipantyou’re absolutely right – they seems like amazing machines …. and i think the new shake could be very interesting … however Apple is more a consumer company – there force is design and smart featured applications and Leopard seems to amaze … BUT i want a stable and specialed system … with my new macbook next to it for all the smart communication stuff etc….
if discreet should do anything – they should take flint over on these machines and but the price down to compete shake/nuke and run flame with one of these :::

my point is that discreet should allways go for the best hardware … even though a short trends make other apelling
nikolaParticipantHey guys …
The reason why we choose to pay lots of dollars for a discreet system is to get af full tested system that is not influented by OS opdates … etc.
I like linux … it’s made for Production !!!! And hardware must be what discreet chooses to work and peform best under linux!!
If I wanted flame as a Mac Appl…. why don’t just run shake or nuke on OS/X
nikolaParticipantI would put Digital Domain much higher on both commercials and features … like #2 on commercials and between 5-7 on features…
what about Double Negative from the UK – they showed some really good work lately on features.
and Sony Picture Imageworks is also a the top 5 on features
In commercial world, the mill is really the winner, however I think is funny to see what comes out of small shop like ourself, considering that we have fragtment of time/budget compared to the large campaigns the large shops works on.
nikolaParticipantwe’re testing the same in the moment and have found some really good alternatives to Sonys HD CRTs – not much cheaper but thiner and actually better in resultion…
Cinetal are good – but they have a noisy fan (however they are working to solve this)
E-cinema system – have a 23″ which we are waiting to test – I’ll post my judge later on …jonas
nikolaParticipantDesignDawg wrote:Hey all,Pretty self-explanatory subject line. Do you use DVDs? SAN? NAS? AIT? SAIT? SATA? DLT?
I’m finalizing my decision on buying a new Smoke system, and I know, with >4TB of storage for 2K files, I’m going to need SOMETHING. I’d love to hear opinions, workflows, solutions, etc. For example, is anyone using a Windows-based NAS for backup? How?
Thanks,
Ricky
We’re using SAIT tapes for out linux flint … it’s amazing!! fast and easy to use, and all resolution and history data is on the same tape …
nikolaParticipantwhat about doing it with displacement …. shoot a face in a darkroom with the light falling off to make a depth matte … (actually infared / nightshot on DV cameras could be better) Use this footage to displace the image in flame. You might wanna do some pre stuff like cleaning the matte.
I don’t know if this will give you the effect you are looking for – just an idea.
