To post images, it’s quite easy (at least if you have a file server).
You just need to type the image URL into the img tags of the BB code :
[img]url here[/img]
(when you type your message, click on the Img button to open an img tag, paste your URL and click again on the img button to close the tag).If you don’t have a file server, send me the image(s) and I’ll upload them on my ftp server.
(francois at francoisroussel dot com)zinniaParticipantGenarts has such agreement, it’s the one I had to sign :
Quote:This letter is to confirm that as of _______________ (date) FLGB no longer has Sapphire Plug-ins or any Shake software installed on the following workstation:Shake with lmhostID xxxxxxxxxxxx
We agree that all copies of Sapphire Plug-ins software have been deleted from this workstation and will never be restored unless a new license is purchased. Furthermore, all copies of Sapphire Plug-ins license codes for this machine have been deleted or destroyed and have never been communicated outside of our facility.
We therefore request our Sapphire Plug-ins license to be transferred to the following workstation:
Shake with lmhostID xxxxxxxxxxxx
And my final word :
zinniaParticipantYes, their policy about their licenses is as bad as many software editors (Alias, Softimage, etc). I’m using the Sapphire with Shake, and when I changed my workstation I had to do a lot of paperwork to cancel the previous license and to finally get a new one (exactly the same procedure as RevisionFX). Hopefully it was free (which was not the case for Maya, Alias asked me 200$ just to send me a new license corresponding to my new ethernet ID, I finally switched back to lightwave).
All my correspondance with Genarts was with Todd Prives. He is a really nice guy, and I’m sure, if you talk gently to him, your problems will be quicky gone.
I’m really fed up with editors who over-protect their softwares, if you don’t really care about support, it’s now much faster and cheaper to get what you need on a p2p network. Now when you spend xK$ on a software you only get an email with a link to download the software and it’s online doc. Do you remember the time of huge boxes that we got with Softimage 3D or early versions of Maya? Now, the only thing we get into the boxes is the licensing guide… Great!
I want the printed manuals back, and a simple serialisation method! Just like apple is doing with all it’s Pro-Apps.
(Sorry about whining like this but I feel better now)
zinniaParticipantI also think that, currently, CRT monitors give a far better image than LCD’s. The biggest problem with LCD monitors is that the deepest black they can display is equivalent to a 25% grey on a CRT.
The overall brightness of the image is not the same all over the screen, and the small imperfections in the LCD matrix add a sort of grain.
The gamut is also wider on CRT monitors.
It’s not really an issue if you want to make 3D, and basic compositing, but if you want to do high-end compositing, color grading, etc CRT is still best.
I’m using lacie Electron Blue monitors with calibration probe and I never had to complain about their quality.
Maybe the nex gen OLED screens will be more suitable for the VFX industry.zinniaParticipantI’m much more interested by the Raid system that is going to be sold as an optional accessory. At 4K res, 60fps, 4.4.4, 10bits lossless, it should sustain something like 2GB/sec. I really can’t wait to see such thing, especially if their price will be as agressive as it is for the camera.
I really don’t know what to think about Red. Their camera is really a dream machine. But, we are near half 2006, and they’re gonna ship the cameras end 2006. That makes only 6 months to finalize the specs, release a working prototype, to test it, and to lunch production.
They also want to get in the same market as Zeiss and cooke! I really which them good luck. Lenses are extremely hard to make (especially zooms), it requires a really high level of enginering.
What about this “red ram” memory able to store one hour of 2k images? It sounds strange. Even Panasonic can’t store more than a few minutes of HD on it’s P2 cards.
A lot of things seems strange to me (should I say too good to be true?).– They still need to finalise a lot of specs
– Why should we use 16mm lens on a 35mm aperture??
– What kind of controls for the picture will they have? (Sony has spent years in R&D to give loads of picture controls like the hyper gammas).
– Where does the viewfinder go? Will we need to by a 3rd party one? Where should we plug it?
– Real or electronic shutter? How do you set the angle?
– Any mark on the camera to show the back plate position?
– etc…I really hope I’m just paranoid, but this sounds strange.
zinniaParticipantAnd what about Zeno?
