fxguide LIVE DVD QuickTime Previews

We’d like to thank the numerous artists who’ve purchased our fxguide LIVE’03 and LIVE’04 DVDs. Based upon the great response, we’ve stepped up the schedule to release this year’s event and get them out sooner. In the meantime, the big questions we’ve gotten are if we could extend the rebates and also wondering if the material on the two discs is still timely since they are a couple of years old now. The short answer: yes and yes. The long answer: click the

Rebates Extended

Based upon the continual email requests we’ve been getting, we decided to extend the DVD rebates until the end of October. This means that past attendees can save up to $100 and multi-disc buyers who did not attend the event can save $50. See the bottom of this story for details. If you do not live in the United States, we can provide you with a rebate code to enter when you purchase the DVDs. The second big question we get is whether the material is still timely for artists. The answer is that it definitely is. We’ve covered things such as camera mapping, expressions, proxy workflow, and the batch editing timeline — all these things are still applicable in day to day work.

We sent out surveys to purchasers of the DVD sets in order to find out how we could improve this year’s discs. The responses were overwhelmingly positive. Comments such as the following were typical of the responses we got regarding the discs and the event itself:

“The enthusiasm from you guys to create an informative and supportive community among compositors comes through with this DVD and thus the information was very well directed and straight to the heart of the matter. Information like this is great to get when sometimes you can get stuck in your own little post house world.”

“Essential event for all users for flame and inferno”

“At last I get it. The MK or as we call it the ‘complikeyer’ was demystified”

“This event will last the whole year. The camera linked with projectors to make flat artwork come to life was incredible to see and its a trick I’ll be using on my clients on Tuesday!”

QuickTime 7 Movie Previews

In order to show the type of stuff that’s on the discs, we’ve created two short teaser movies – one for the LIVE’03 event and one for the LIVE’04 event. Just a sample to give you a taste of what is on the discs. The 2003 sample deals with using projectors for camera mapping. The 2004 clip is a taste of the section on expressions, with a digital odometer expression which was inspired by a tip submitted to fxguide by Alan Fairlie. The digital odometer setup, along with other setups from the event, are included on the DVD.
