The shortlist for the 2011 Film Craft Cannes Lions has been released, with the winners to be announced on 25 June. There are seven Special Effects & Computer Graphics entrants shortlisted, and we’ve been able to previously cover a number of the spots at fxguide.

Click here for our article on SWAY Studio’s visual effects in ‘Mini Countryman Flow’ for MINI, a spot that features multiple cars splitting apart while driving through Milan. Mike Seymour interviewed MPC’s Matthew Unwin about his work for ‘Cubehead’, a Drench spot. We covered The Mill’s epic CG stadiums and Massive VFX for the Nike ‘Write the Future’ spot here. And we also looked at PSYOP’s contribution to ‘Something’s Lurking’, an LG Electronics TVC combing both practical and digital FX.
The Special Effects & Computer Graphics shortlist is rounded out by ‘Victor’ for Sony PS3 with visual effects by Serena Digital, ‘Tick’ for Canal+ with production by Wanda and ‘Spring’, an AT&T spot with VFX by The Mill.
The Animation shortlist also includes some great work by such companies as MPC, Framestore and Digital District. We’ll update this post with the winners for both this and the Special Effects & Computer Graphics category on 25 June.
UPDATE:
In the Special Effects & Computer Graphics category, ‘MINI Countryman Flow’ and ‘Victor’ won Silver Lions, and ‘Cubehead’ and ‘Write the Future’ won Bronze. Meanwhile, Alex Roman’s work in ‘Above Everything Else’ received a Gold Lion in the Animation category. We covered the spot here at fxguide. The other Gold winner for Animation was ‘Balloons’ for MTV, with Bronzes to ‘Spots v Stripes’, ‘A Whirlwhind of Change’ and ‘Testimony of a Snail’.
Congratulations to all the winners.
