fxpodcast #297: Masters of FX, the book!

This week on the fxpodcast Mike Seymour chats to fxguide’s own writer Ian Failes about his book, Masters of FX, which profiles 16 of the world’s best special and visual effects supervisors.

Ian’s book also includes a foreword by director James Cameron, himself a pioneer in the effects world with such groundbreaking projects as The Terminator, The Abyss, Terminator 2, Titanic and Avatar.

The supervisors included in Masters of FX are John Bruno, Chris Corbould, Richard Edlund, Scott Farrar, Paul Franklin, Karen Goulekas, Ian Hunter, John Knoll, Robert Legato, Joe Letteri, Dennis Muren, John Rosengrant, Phil Tippett, Doug Trumbull, Bill Westenhofer and Edson Williams.

Each chapter has full color behind the scenes and final still photos, and concentrates on a supervisor and several of the films they’ve worked on.

In the podcast, Ian and Mike chat about how the book came to be, and also discuss the changing nature of the VFX industry and their thoughts on how some recent films have been marketed in terms of their practical and digital effects offerings.
