fxpodcast: Rhythm & Hues’ polar bears

This week we look back at the pioneering work by Rhythm & Hues on the popular Coca-Cola polar bears TV commercials that began airing in the 90s, and how the industry has changed and developed since then.

The polar bears themselves recently became part of the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame. We talk to Rhythm’s Todd Shifflett, a digital artist at the time and now a VFX supervisor, and to Craig Talmy, then an art director and now an animation supervisor at the studio.

A final shot from one of the polar bears TVCs.
